Any drag racers here?

Maybe you may know my friend Sam Gianino who still owns NHRA records from Detroit from the late 70`s, early 80`s.He appeared on the covers of Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hotrodding, ect.He owned a machine shop and built motors for Rouch racing. He raced Grumpy 10 times and only beat him once.

I'm only 43 yrs old but that name sounds familiar but have heard of "The Grump", he ran General Kinetic cams and I was told by an elder at the time to look into that brand, so I did, even went to their then location on Warren Avenue, IIRC and bought one. The building was really old but they knew their stuff though.

Sinister Z, after seeing that video and what you did on street tires (Firestone's???) all I can say is WELCOME TO THE 11'S !

Thank you. I'm getting closer, but not quite into the 11s yet. Going back again sometime this week or weekend. My best run today was a 12.279 @ 116.94 with a 1.942 60'. Best 60' was a 1.896. The Firestones that I'm on are their Firehawk Wide Ovals. Next step is some drag radials :D

Here is my 84 Monte Carlo will be more of a street/strip car,

Started with an 85, ended up chopping it up now sitting next to the garage in pieces, couldn't resist the deal i got on this was a buddies and had to get rid of it so i took it,

New floors, all rust repaired, sanblasted and painted frame and underside, 8point rool bar, plan on doing as much interior as i can, i have a 350 4bolt, planing on a lt1 t56 6spd for now stock 10bolt rear till i can get a 12 bolt,

I bet those wide ovals are as hard as a brick, some summer perf tires would be better than that but not as good as drag radials. What brand of drag radials are you getting BFG or Nitto?

Oh you can't imagine. To me,they feel like runflats. I'm looking into the BFGs. From what I've read, I heard they're a little bit better than the Nittos. I've also been checking out the Hoosier drag radials as well. Trying to see what will work best for my stock trans and diff without trying to break anything lol. Once I eat up the rest of the Wide Ovals, I'll be switching to the Toyo R888 R-Comp tires for the street and road race stuff and have the drag radials for the strip.

Nice Monte. Would love to see pictures of it when it's done. The LT1/T56 combo will be a really nice setup. The LT1 in my old '94 took a beating daily and never skipped a beat. Best of luck it!

Thanks it deffinatly will be fun, i am forgoing the lt1 tho just using a lt1's trans since it will bolt directly up to the old school 79 350 4bolt i have, will be some time befor it is done,

The 350 is kind of a funny story tho same buddy I got the car from had it in it a 74 blazer was told it was a 305 when he bought the truck, so pulled it out and put in a built 350 and was going to trash the "305" that was in it, being my 85's motor took a shet(stuck lifter rounded the cam lobe) i snagged it up since i couldn't let a well running motor go to waist, after running the block code it said it could be a 2 or 4 bolt 350, flipped it over pulled the pan and it was indeed a 4bolt!

I must clarify a post from earlier.. I typed 'whp' instead of 'bhp'. I apologize for the confusion.

I wouldnt call myself a racer by any means but i do enjoy going down the truck.

First time down the truck was in a 91 2.3L Mustang ran 19.56 @ 71MPH 60' Unknown

My 07 Ranger 2.3L ran 17.22 all day long but for the life of me cant remember 60' or MPH

My 03 Supercrew was the funniest. Lifted on 38's, had a SVT Lightning motor running at 12# of boost. Dynoed at 331RWHP/402RWTQ and ran the best of 14.56 at 91MPH with a 2.08 60'. With more tunning and better track prep i just know it would have been a 13 sec truck but i sold it before i was able to get a better time.

This 2.3L....was in an SVO engine?

Another thread I don't know how I missed! Myself, I am in the business of building some very fast cars, so I find my way to the dragstrip more often than not, whether it's one of my cars (Except the WS6, it's way too nice), or setting up a customer's car. We get some nice grudge races going here.

Highly doubtful, '91 was the wrong year (SVO was '86 if I remember correctly, unless it's a swap of course), and the 19 sec 1/4 seems a little too slow for a 2.3 Turbo. By the way, since you're from Elk Grove, are you a member on CTR by any chance? I've been meaning to ask you for awhile, I've just been forgetting to.

It wasn't a SVO, unless it stands for Slow Vehicles Only lol. It was just a Dual Plug SOHC 2.3L, was my first car and it sure was slow but fun as hell going down the 1320 for my first time at 16yrs old.

Yeah the SVO Stang was 84-86 IIRC, the later having non-sealed beam headlights, new back then, LOL! I thought it might've been a swap but I guess not. Check your PM's too.
