Last weekend I had an opportunity to put to use the Blackfire BlackIce I won on the Autopia forum recently
Yay.gif

In March I polished and sealed my A6, so the finish still looked good and was still protected. However, my car is parked in an area subject to a lot of fallout, so the surface already required decontamination. Even with a protective barrier the elements quickly bonded to the surface.

Products used:
CG Citrus Wash Red
Metro Master Blaster
Guzzler Drying Towel
Car-Pro Merino Wool Wash Mitt
Cobra Micro-Chenille Mitt
DP Wheel Cleaner
Wheel Woolies
Boars Hair Brush
Nanoskin Fine Grade Sponge
Blackfire Clay Lube
Menzerna SF 4000
Rupes LHR-21 w/ Yellow Rupes Pads
Griots 3" D/A
Car-Pro Eraser
Cobra Supreme 530 & Woobie MF Towels
Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Gel

The wheels and tires were cleaned with DP wheel cleaner using a boars hair brush and Wheel Woolies. Car was foamed with a foam gun and two bucket wash. Drying duties handled courtesy of the Master Blaster and Guzzler towel.
My go to clay is often the Pinnacle Poly-Clay, but there were some stubborn areas that required some additional effort, so I tried out the new Nanoskin fine grade sponge and all was squeaky smooth again.

Did some light polishing to ensure there was no marring with my Rupes LHR-21 with the 5" backing plate. Used Menzerna SF-4000 with the Rupes yellow 5.5" polishing pads. Tighter areas were handled as needed with the Griots 3" D/A and the Griot's 3" orange pads.
After the completion of the polishing step the car was wiped down twice with Car-Pro Eraser and all was ready for the BlackIce application.

I applied the BlackIce with my Griots 3" D/A and a red finishing pad. The wax goes on nice and thin with very even coverage when using the D/A to apply it. A little goes a long way with a few blips out of the pot only necessary on occasion to cover the entire vehicle. Removal of the wax was done with several Woobie MF towels. It is as not easy to remove as say Fuzion, but certainly not terribly difficult to remove either.

Honestly I have read a lot of positive feedback on this wax, so I already had high expectations. However, after seeing the car for the first time with this application I was blown away.
The end results may all be in the prep, but the BlackIce turns a well prepped vehicle into a thing of beauty. On my Havana Black A6 the depth and clarity of the paint was simply on another level. The metallic flake pops nicely and after removal the paint is somewhat slick, but not oily.
On the first day exposed to the elements after application I noticed that dust attraction was very low. The rest of the week it has been raining and I can tell you that beading and sheeting is excellent as Roshan has previously demonstrated.

Here are some pictures after completion. The sun was not totally cooperative, but certainly good enough to appreciate the outcome.

Nice job Charlie! Looks great! Excellent review and information as well, as usual...

My goodness that looks great. Great job!

Man that car looks nice! Thanks for the review!

BlackICE is awesome!!

Nice review and amazing pictures. Your A6 looks so sick Buddy! I love the wheels and the S badges. *drool* The black looks so proper for the car but must be a full time job to keep looking its best.

BlackIce is on my list to get...

That looks amazing. How is that Audi paint from the factory? It looks like it has little to no orange peel at all. That really helps to make black pop!

Beautifully done! :props:

I could easily apply impressive to the entire BlackFire line! :dblthumb2:

Charlie,
Thank God I'm sitting on my couch staring at your gorgeous car. I can see myself gawking at your ride and walking straight into a phone pole.

Excellent job! Thanks for the inclusive review.

this wax looks amazing, but is it only for darker color cars??? Can i use it on white. If not what would be a similar wax to black ice that i can use on dark and light?

That's a little too often to go through all that for me but you certainly can't argue with the results. I've never got one to look that good.

Thank you very much Scott.
Except for the Charlie part!

Thank you very much for the compliments Marc!
You are right about being tough to look good and I work at a dust bowl :(

The paint is very hard indeed, but it does have orange peel. Fortunately it is not terribly bad and I have minimized it somewhat from polishing.

Beautifully done! :props:

Thank you Bobby! and I agree the entire Blackfire line is impressive. Most of the products are either excellent or outstanding.

Charlie,

Excellent job! Thanks for the inclusive review.

LOL, thank you very much!
BTW ... My name is Buddy, not Charlie. My friend Scott tends to use random names that I can never predict :dunno:

The BlackIce was engineered to perform its best on darker color vehicles. If you want a Blackfire wax to use on a white car I would recommend the Midnight Sun, or the All Finish Paint Protection sealant-or even better the sealant first and then the wax as a topper :props:

Very nice work - awesome reflections. :xyxthumbs:

Thank you Davey!

At G Thang - Op is right. All finish paint protection sealant topped w midnight wax is really nice on white. I recently applied this combo to my 2012 white Honda odyssey and I am very impressed. I like that combo better on white than I do on my darker colored paint on another car.

Scott - excellent work. Is that an AC unit in your garage?

My name is Buddy, LOL! My friend Scott likes to confuse everyone :buffing:

Yes, that is the interior portion of a mini-split A/C unit. I had it installed a few weeks ago and it makes detailing an entirely different experience in my hot and humid climate. Gets colder in the garge than my house and the unit is almost silent in operation :xyxthumbs:
