Are the Rupes polishers still living up to all the hype?

I remember when these started to hit the market a few months ago and they were the best thing since sliced bread! Now that they have been around some and possibly seen a lot of use are they still living up to the hype? I have a PC7424XP and a backup machine from HF, but I am looking to add another machine to my tools. Is the trick set up still the 21 then get smaller backing plate? I will be doing a lot of full sized trucks and suburbans etc so I think the 21 would be best for what I am doing?

If the Rupes are not all they were made out to be for the price, which model of the Flex would you recommend? I would still like to stay DA at this time.

Still keeps up with the hype. I wish I had my machine sooner.

Have the 21 and also the 5" bp.
 
I just picked up the Rupes 15 21 and a flex today Ill be interested to see the difference between the three.
 
Great on flat surfaces! Having trouble on curved panels even with washer mod.
 
I'm trying to figure out if I want the Flex PE14 or the rupes 21. Anyone have any thoughts about either?
 
The rupe is a da? I didn't read that on the product info thought it was a rotary

From what I read the rupes can buff out 1500 but so can a rotary (like a dewalt) so I am still confused of why one would want a rotary.

When the Flex OR Rupes are just as powerful.

(Not for one or the other) just still don't understand why?
 
I am leaning towards a Flex or Rupes to add to my collection. So I can start using my PC for interior and Flex or Rupes for exterior.

A rotary like the Dewalt or Makita brings back memories of Auto Body Detailing. Lol
 
From what I've read people say the DA doesn't work as well on deeper scratches as a rotary does.

The DA do have limitations but still are great machines. Ive done lots of corrections with DAs and had amazing results.

That's why I don't get, when I was Auto Detailing professionally. I always liked to damp sand to 3000 because it was so much easier to buff out. (Especially with a new painted car) and I was using a Dewalt with a wool pad (3M compound with wool pad and black foam pad for polish)

My main concerns were, orange peel , fisheyes, dirt or runs.


So if my PC can buff out 3000 then why not just use my PC? I was only doing 2 panels at a time (give or take)
 
Maybe I said it wrong... Maybe it was heavier... I just remember people saying DA was good for light scratches but I'm just going by what I read I don't speak from any exp. that's why I'm having such a hard time choosing... I'm going to be putting in a big order soon but still am undecided what polisher/s I want... I thought I would go with a rotary and a DA... I'm sure ill use both.
 
The Rupes does very well on flat panels. I find it stops rotating too easily on non flat panels.
 
If there was a scratch. couldn't it be wet sanded to say 1500 then 3000 and just buff it out with a PC with a yellow foam pad and some compound?

I'm also just wondering because... That is what I did with a Dewalt and a wool pad. So why not with a PC? according to AG customer service a PC can buff out 3000
