Received a call from a customer today. He has a 2011 BMW 550 in white. He tells me that he thinks he messed up his hood, so I asked him to come over to look at it. So he came over and we went through his process. I dont believe anything he did should have stained the paint. Yet it did. He hand washed it, clayed the paint, used a paint cleaner by hand, then used the Zymol. He said that the parts that were stained were where the Zymol was applied a little heavier. He said that the wax sat on the paint just long enough to wax around the car, less than an hour. The stain is in the paint. If you use a light and look at the stain you can see where it has raised the paint slightly. He had a friend try and compound it and nothing happened. I tried a small test spot with some Menzerna and nothing. This is twice now I have see a stain like this on a white BMW. The first time was what looked like oil had splashed up on a bumper and stained it. Same situation where it was IN the paint, not on it. Anyone else run across this????

Did he used Zymol s Paint Cleanse by any chance , it s what Zymol srongly suggests to use with their waxes & what wax was used from Zymol .

He didnt mention it at all so I assume he didnt. I thought about trying to wet sand it but if the polish didnt lighten it at all then Im not positive its going to do anything. I am sure the wax he used was what he purchased a Walmart or somewhere like that.

Some pix would help , some might chime in & give some help also .

I wonder if the dealer installed some kind of a paint treatment before sale and he didn't even know it. It may have reacted with it and caused the stain. I know a lot of high line dealers sell " you never have to wax your car again" products.

menzerna line is more of a physical polish maybe a chemical polish like pinnacle paintwork cleansing lotion? You can try that and let us know the results

Staining on a clear coat finish would be fairly shallow as clear coats are not very porous. That said, stained clear coat can be hard to fix as the paints tend to be harder.

Staining on single stages can be worse as the offending substance can migrate deeper into the paint.

When ever I'm trying to fix problems like this I start by placing a tape-line across a section of the affected area and then I just buff on one side of the tape-line. By doing this you can "troubleshoot" what's working or not working.

If you've compounded the section and you don't see any improvement this is a bad sign. You're really only left with one option and that's abrading the surface to remove the portion of paint layer that's physically stained.

If the paint is a single stage and it is stained deep into the paint then it might be too risky to fix.

Question

When doing any type of buffing or polishing do you see any paint pigment coming off the car and onto your pads?

If not then it's likely a clear coated finish.

That should not make any differene. That cannot be a excuse for a loucy product.
