Griot Closeout sale

Meghan--the all important question that needs answered is why the close out sale?? You see the rumors that Griots is going belly up.

I think it's just speculation as one of several possible causes for a closeout sale rather than a rumor.

I started this thread because the discounts were substantial and was curious as to why.

Hopefully people don't think I've started a rumor about Griots.

If Advance Auto was the cause then they would not be selling Mothers, Mequiars, and other brands. I am sure it is either lack of sales or some financial reason such as profit margins (Griot's raised the wholesale prices?). They do not have to carry the entire line. I think Griots had a few very good products and AG should continue to sell a select group of the popular ones.

There are always way to avoid free shipping minimums from PBMG by ordering through amazon.com where shipping is less on smaller orders and there are some freeship codes floating around too but you do not get the discount.

To us in the detailing segment Griot's is a house hold name, to those in the retail segment the name doesn't carry the weight Meguiar's and Mothers do.

The limitations these part stores and box stores have is they are limited to how much shelf space they have and how quick a product needs to be turned. Our format with lines like Meguair’s, Mothers, and Griot’s allows us to be able to offer the full line and the popular large sizes. Those Stores virtually have no impact on Autogeek sales except giving more exposure to these lines. In addition to this we also have an awesome crew for tech support to answer questions, excellent customer service and like no one else in the industry. Not to mention, we provide this great forum where we have all of you who assist each other and have access to representatives from most of the brands we sell.

I agree, you do have a great crew, customer service, and great tech support. :)

A lot of us here don't have the retail or supply chain distribution background so we can all make several guesses as to what's going on. As stated recently, only AG knows the true answer and time will reveal what that is.

I was thinking the same thing when reading through the paragraph which told us about how great AG is and how great its people are, even the advanatage of providing us this forum we have here, seeing an esteemed member of AG gave me hope of having this question answered, guess I'll call them Monday morning directly to find out, also to thank them for getting my buddy Derek's birthday gift out to him so quickly but I'm sure they hear it all the time how great they are to their customers, something that's earned the old fashioned way, not with a bunch of fanboys patting someone on the back!

If AG is discontinuing the Griot's line....it is strange that the Griot's products are not discounted at the Autopia Online Store; which is also a Palm Beach Motoring Group Company.

Is there any reason why this can't be just a "sale"? The word "closeout" is used all the time by every retailer but it does not necessarily mean anyone is going out of business or products are discontinued. "Closeout" should mean just that but all too often it is just a marketing term. Maybe Griot and AG are parting ways, maybe AG is just getting rid of old stock, maybe this and maybe that. One thing I am 99% certain of (not 100% of course) is that Griot's Garage is NOT going out of business.

The bottom line is if you like certain Griot's products it is a good time to stock up. Whatever the reason it does not diminish the product itself.

:iagree:

Great price on wheel cleaner. Nice value !

My 2 cents. Maybe AG is going to stop selling them but PBMG will continue to sell them through Autopia. My only question is if Griots does not go out of business and AG just stops carrying their products, who do I go through for a warranty claim on my GG 6" ? I thought I was to go through AG since I bought it from them.

My take is that AGO is making room for another product line in their warehouse. It could be they are adding a new line in the future or simply optimizing their real estate with the product lines that remain.

I highly doubt AG would have a closeout sale before the manufacturer. My guess is AG is just dropping the line.

I bet gg would still warrant it. They have supurb customer service. One of the reasons i have been their customer for 12 years.

hey guys griots is not going out of business , autogeek is doing away with the line because it doesn't sell well.

Well its too bad it doesn't sell well here because their polishes have always worked well for me anyways, might not be the "flavor of the month" with the fanboys but I like them FWIW. I know this, their 6" RO is one of the best and more importantly the easiest to use, which IMO is THE selling points!

I will always be a Griot's customer, no reason to stop using them because they're not sold here, that's really too bad though.

IMO every time that a vendor goes retail, AG drops the line. Think Surf City.

This is a good point. Autopia is now selling stuff not available at AG: Wolfs, Auto Finesse, and LC Cool Wave pads (IIR)..not sure if they are seeing how well these sell, or it they are trying to build up Autopia's following selling exclusive items there.

If they are trying to do the later, different ( or any) BOGOs and free samples at Autopia would likely make their sales go way up quickly.

The polisher is warrantied through Griots, regardless what retailer you bought if from, so I wouldn't worry about that (GG6).

FWIW, Griots products are often available through Amazon with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime. Some CGs stuff as well.

I'm going to have to not break a tear if they go out of business. For years they have never innovated in order to compete with high quality products such as optimum megs etc. and doesn't know how to go after the mass market like turtle wax mothers and so on. They are stuck in the muddy middle with a very boring and stale line. Just my .02.

Boring- While I am not a fan, you got to admit they have some great ( but very expensive) German tools and knickknacks. I suggest that you get a copy of their catalogue, it is great and interesting reading.

If they are in trouble, I am very sad for them. It not good thing to see a small business go under.
