Ok guys I have a question regarding agressiveness of both pads and products.

I found guides rating agressiveness of various compounds, that is great and I think it will be very useful. What I would like to know is where do pads fit in all that?

In other words, what effect would changing pad have on the agressiveness of a product.

Let me give an exemple so you can try to figure out an answer ;)

Say I use Meguiar's #83 Cleaner/Polish which has an aggressiveness factor of 6 on my chart (1 being non-agressive and 10 being super agressive). Also say that Meguiar #105 has an agressiveness of 9 on the same chart.

Now. How would that rating change if I use:

A MF finishing pad (I know I should not use that but it's just to understand the effects of the pad)
A CCS finishing pad (red)
A MF polishing pad
A CCS polishing pad (white)
A MF cutting pad
A CCS cutting pad (orange)
A CCS heavy cutting pad (yellow)

I know what you are trying to do and this will be a great thread for future reference by any and all people of the world.

If you think about it, pads can have "cut" ratings too. Product + pad would give you an "effective cut rating" for the combination; BUT... some products may diverge more or less from the norm depending on product makeup, technique, type of DA (or by hand), pad cleanliness and amount of pressure applied. That last part extends beyond the discussion to a degree but you do need to factor everything into account (that's why a test spot is always recommended).

I'll take some educated guesses....

M105 (9) plus:

MF Finishing Pad = 7
CCS Finishing Pad = 5
MF Polishing Pad = 10
CCS Polishing Pad = 7
MF Cutting Pad = 12
CCS Cutting Pad = 9
CCS Heavy Cutting Pad = 10

This is one of my favorite aspects of the paint correction process - choosing which pad for the job.

Not only that, but machine speed plays a factor in the equasion as well.

Just yesterday, I was using the green Hex Logic with megs Ultimate Compound on speed 5 on my pc. It did an excellent job tackling the more minor defects. Jump up ot six, and it's near flawless, while leaving a nice finish. I can also use this pad with m205/Ultimate Polish, and get additional correcting abilities, than I would with my normal choice with that product - the blue hex pad.

With their orange pad, I seemed to get more cut, but the pad didn't conform to the body contours as well as the green one.

Thanks mwoolfso (that's quite a mouthful) Hehehe!

I will take note of that and add it to my aggressiveness chart.

Thanks dlc95, speed will obviouly affect agressiveness. I did not take into consideration flexibility of the pads for un-even surfaces, that is really good to know. Thanks!

Anytime!

don't forget...the paint you are working on plays one of the most important factors...

for that reason, it is very tough to generalize...

Where would Surbuf pads fit in this equation? I would assume they would be almost equivalent to the MF Pads.
