Duragloss 531 Review

I think the description of the product is misleading. It's worked best on plastics for me. Apply it just like the 531, thick, let it dry, then buff off the excess.

I will give it a try. Thanks for the tip

Dave

271 on exterior plastics works very well.
IIRC DG has a specific exterior trim product in beta testing right now so hopefully we'll see it soon.

I saw that richy was beta testing it. It's supposed to last one year too. I'm seeing anywhere from 4-6 months out of 271 on a daily driver right now. Pretty durable stuff.

That's about what I'm getting also.....UTTG last a little bit longer but as far as looks they both look the same to me.

Looking at price points 271 is the winner.

Looking forward to the new DG product.

Is there a link/info on the beta ?. Interesting on the 271 who would have thought. Surely not me because I did not use it. Both of you seem to be getting about the same time out of 271 on plastic so I will give it a shot in Arizona. I have used it on the daughters car that has rubber molding around the windows attached to the body and it held up well. Live and Learn. Thanks guy's.

Give it a shot, you will like it. I haven't tried it on rubber but it's good on plastic.
There's no beta testing thread on it yet I don't think, but he's done a few details where he used it. Here's one:

Very nice. How long did you wait between coats?

Just long enough for it to dry, maybe 5-10 minutes. I didn't include this in the review but I didn't wipe off the excess after the first coat. Apply first coat, wait to dry, then apply another coat on top and then wipe off the excess after both coats have dried.

I was telling you guy's about DG not having a plastic protectant and I put the question to DG.

My question went like this

I recently needed to apply a plastic protectant on my fender skirts of my RV. I went to my Duragloss supplies and noticed nothing say's plastic protectant. Thinking I may have missed a key product I looked at DG's site and found nothing. Finally had to use Ultima Tire and Trim Guard. Am I missing something ?. Is there a reason DG does not offer a plastic protectant ?. Every DG product I have used has exceeded my expectations and have become a huge DG fan and believe if DG developed a plastic protectant it would follow in the foot steps of their existing products.
The response

David, Thank you for your inquiry. If your plastic is non-porous, our #101, Polish and Cleaner is all you would need. This will give you great protection. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 800-638-7245 Thank you, Bill

So there is the official DG response

I was just looking at 101 on DG's site and noticed they now have a time of 2 hours after mixing anything with 601 for maximum results. I only mention this because I remember the questions a while ago about the life expectancy after mixing and some saying it was ok to still use it long after the process. I did not dispute any of this as I am an electrician not a scientist or DG product analyst. So there you go, either mix what your going to use or apply 601 first then apply whatever your using over it.

I'm surprised they didn't recommend 271?
I've heard of people using DG 105 on plastic trim with good results but I don't know if these sealants will darken the trim like 271 or last as long as 271 either.
I would assume using 105 is safe to use on plastic if 101 is because from what I understand 105 is just an improved version of 101.

I had the same thoughts on 501 or 105. Not sure what is special about 101 that they recommend that one.

Not to throw a wrench in this, but isn't DG famous for this (like Collinite also) of giving different answers to the same questions when asked on a different day, or by a different person, or when someone else answers the phone? How many different answers have we gotten about which DG "polishes" have cleaners and which don't etc. etc.

Maybe since 105 came out nobody is buying 101 so they are trying to get rid of their stock lol

Don't know. Let's test it, give it a few days then email them with a plastic protectant question then we will compare answers LOL
I also thought about a 101 liquidation. Better get on board and get some, collector item you know.

The response he posted was from bill bailey, one of the two brothers that are the chemists behind all the duragloss products. I think he knows what he's talking about.

I know exactly who he was talking to, and people get different answers depending on which brother they talk to, what day of the week it is, etc. Some of that may be translation error from chemist to layman, but still.

Sorry if my reply came off rude, I just reread it and I feel like it came off that way. They have amazing products I just wish they knew how to distinguish between some of them and where/how to use them.

I applied 321 to a bunch of plastic and rubber parts on the RV. Also did some of the Decals. The fenderwell skirts already have UTTG applied. I will keep an eye on all of those parts.

It's ok, I didn't take it as rude, sorry if I came off that way, I too enjoy DG products, and as I alluded to earlier, I think part of the problem is us laymen parsing the chemist talk when one of us gets on the phone with them. I just looked at their site and it looks like they changed the description of 111 so maybe it's not as confusing as it used to be.

A lot of people want to know about layering and cleaners, and different people would call/email over there and get conflicting answers about which ones had cleaners and which didn't, which could be layered, how they differed from each other, etc.
