What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I’m glad you stuck to your guns. I had a friend in a similar situation. I coated his first Lexus and when he traded it in for a newer model they charge him $700 for ceramic protection. He knew they didn’t do a tenth of what is done to coat a car and didn’t sign anything until they removed the charge. Unfortunately, most people don’t know better and just pay the price.
Optimus, thanks. I hadn't bought a car in a long time and wasn't sure what I was walking into. I was internet searching for info and stumbled upon some YT videos by a father and son team on car buying, and what is now a company they formed called CarEdge. I watched about 5 of their videos thinking I'm not going to need all this ... and sure enough, I did.

If you use the Toyota configurator tool this is what it says about that trim element, "Anodized Blue"

I assumed they meant it was aluminum but you could be right

I will go investigate later and see what it is

View attachment 139013As far as the screens go, I am spoiled by them

Other than the huge map and navigation info almost everything you need while driving is repeated in the dash cluster via the steering wheel controls as well so you aren't looking at the screen that often

I love it for the admin stuff you can do while parked, settings, trip and mileage info, etc

I don't know, maybe I am compensating for something

I had a Lexus loaner while the car was in for that recall in May and it had the heads up display

I thought I would hate that but it was really kind of cool

Grenny kinda of the same. Nothing in front of wheel and all info in center screen. Took some getting used to too but now love the field of view. Just warning lights in center pod.

What is that?

I can’t read what it says at the bottom of the steering wheel

Looking at how they have that arranged, I'd say that it makes producing right and left-hand drive versions easier/cheaper as the centre console and screen would be common to both.

3rd day in a row using Ech2o as a drying aid after going through the touch-free wash before work, thing about today though, so humid out already, condensation formed on the roof, windshield and rear windows, SUCKS out already

81 degrees as I post this

Could be worse, I wonder if the new Kia Tasman will make its way over to the US?

Spotted one for the first time yesterday, was painted in that horrible cream/beige color that seems to be the flavor of the month at the moment. Having said that, it wouldn't matter what color its painted, it doesn't change the fact that the Tasman is hideously ugly. What were they thinking!

They were thinking it's been a while since someone designed something even more ugly than the cyber truck.

When I purchased my last vehicle I told the salesman that I did not want any sell jobs on a coating. Yet, when I went to sign papers and pick it up I had to sit through a coating (inside and outside protection) sell spiel. Then the business manager pushed it. I declined everything (not just coating) and he was rather abrupt afvter that since he was not in control. Given I was putting a substantial amount down, the add ons really showed in the finance information (several hundred more per month) since they try to hide it all in payments.

I inspected the vehicle during delivery and saw some water spots under hood that I noted. The salesman noted they try to "minimally" prepare cars for delivery -- consider a good thing. They snuck in a free car wash on one visit but so no issues.

I did get a new wash mitt in. The sponge backing is fairly substantial and there is stitching to create finger pockets.

When the finance manager finally figured out that we were NOT financing and that we were not buying any add ons he got super dramatic and pulled out this big stamp with red ink and stamped both of the sheets of paper with all the add ons and he said "you are required to sign these documents that you DECLINED additional coverage" and that is exactly what the red stamp had added to the paper, a big DECLINED with a line and an X to sign

Tried to make us feel like we had just signed away our citizenship or something

Yeah, I had something similar happen. It would be one thing if they thought they were truely helping people, but its just greed. Next time I might ask them how much commision they make on whatever they are pitching and offer to pay them that in cash if they would behave like an adult.

Ive told more than one dealer that if they wash my car before they deliver it, I'm not accepting it. Thankfully my last 2 purchases the dealer knew better. They even asked if I wanted the front plate mounted and I said NO.

There were 3 add on packages, each one was more expensive, and the last and longest in the list jacked the price of the truck from $53,000 to over $68,000

They kept going on about "what if the infotainment screen goes out, it costs blah blah blah" and on and on

I can fix a lot of stuff for $15,000 and if I had that little faith in the product I was buying, I wouldn't be buying it

You can't advertise and sell a brand based on "legendary dependability" and then play boogie man and try to scare people into paying 30% more

If I squint I kind of see the Jeep pickups they are selling here, I imagine that's what they were thinking.

I'm sorry, I don't think that is possible. That truck looks like Elon's kid's idea of a prop in a post-apocalyptic B-movie. Or maybe what his kid thinks he'll be driving when he grows up and lives on Mars.
