Autogeek's Pro Detail Team in Kentucky!

Wow, you guys did a phenomenal job, even in the heat! That asphalt had to be pretty freakin' hot to sit on! What a great team doing great work under the tutelage of a great teacher in Mike Phillips! Glad to see Vargas putting the Detailer's Helper to good use! That's awesome too!

    Detailers Helper Belt

Thanks! I'm about to do a 38' fifth wheel, which is where this thing really shines, I can't imagine doing it without something to hold my polish. I am the same way with polish bottles. As soon as I get my feet under the car, the bottle would be behind the back bumper...no more of that crap!

    Detailers Helper Belt

Thanks Todd, you've been an awesome customer for us, and I'm very thankful for you helping us get the word out! You probably could come up with one yourself, the bags are sized for small and large bags. They have an enclosed piping to keep them open, which helps getting the bottles in and...

Sweet! Thanks Nick! I'll pass the contest around on FB too. I'd do a review, but I might be a little biased! :dblthumb2:

What should I use for DA unreachable parts of the car?

Flex Polisher with flex backing plates. I use Adam's pads, I prefer them over the others I've tested.

Gelcoat took way to long, need rotary

I tried the Marine 31 on a heavily oxidized boat recently, on both rotary and wool and my flex with cutting pad. I actually found that the M101 worked faster and with better results on this particular boat, better cut, and less effort. I send the Marine 31 back to AG. It's good stuff, but I...

What should I use for DA unreachable parts of the car?

Mike Phillips taught us to use a 3" backing plate with 6" pads on some areas, you don't get as much cut, but I find it works well to work around some of the harder to reach spots where the big backing plate can slam into the parts. The only bad thing is it accelerates delam on a lot of pads.

How do you remove sticker residue from paint?

Goof off for me will take off most, but it often requires a little paint work under it.

For The Pros: How Much Correction Would You Attempt?

Yeah, I hear ya. It seems that with the right techniques and materials, you get a bit of a feel for most paint. At least on the cars I do, most of them have never been corrected at all, which is why they need it. I would venture to say that most cars that actually need it done need it because...

Need advice: Adam's Edgeless Utility vs PakShak Silver Surfer

I use Adam's single soft microfiber for polishing, sometimes the double, but they are reserved for this purpose and very carefully examined. I like how soft they are, and I haven't had any issues with swirls, even on really soft clears.

For The Pros: How Much Correction Would You Attempt?

I assume it's OEM paint, not custom? It really depends on the car itself and condition of the paint. You can tell a lot there. Like: FUNX725 said, start less aggressively first and see how it goes, maybe something like XMT360, do a lower rear quarter panel and see what you get. Make sure you...

    Boat pricing

No doubt! The one I just did was 28', and it took me about 25 hours, plus at least $300 in materials (ruined pads, polish, etc.) to do it. Boats are a whole other animal. I'm the only guy in my area that actually does paint/gelcoat work, so I can command a bit of a premium for it, but there are...

    Boat pricing

By the foot is typical, but in my experience, also wrong. A 28' boat can be 3' tall of hull or 10'...that's a lot of difference. I usually do it hourly, for paint work (gelcoat), it's $75 an hour. I can add up, but if you've ever polished gelcoat for 25 hours on a boat (I just did), you'll...

    Online booking

I've been using SnapAppointments, and it's going well, it's picking up from last year with people using that vs. calling. I always call/text/email after it comes in to get details and confirm the appointment and talk pricing. I see it more as a very qualified lead than an actual booking process.

    Protecting yourself -physically

A decent mask that you'd wear for painting will help a lot. If you're working with steam, I think it's pretty important, it makes stuff moist and airborne. We also know our limits. I actually just turned DOWN a job where a guy had puked (upon dying no less) in the front seat. You get blood and...

    Pricing

I went hourly on my stuff a while ago, and can guess how long it takes for the customer. That helps them set a budget, and you can control your income better. I usually say...this service takes probably 3-4 hours at $60-75 per, and if they say they only want to spend "XX", I can work within...

how to post photos from your computer

In photobucket, each photo will have a link, sometimes you have to do a "copy image url" or something. Then use the little photo icon (mountain looking thing) in the thread. Paste the url into that, and they should show up, assuming you have view options to public for that photo.

    rupes belt

I didn't like all of the scratchable stuff on their belt, and it was expensive, so I actually have one coming to market in a few weeks myself. I'm talking to Autogeek about carrying it. It is soft cotton with no buckles or rivets, and I sized it to hold Mag's and other bottles specifically...
