Hobbyist Wheel Coating - DP vs. OptiCoat?

Thanks for the responses. I am leaning towards OC and using that to also get the paint ready for Winter. I will post before/after pics of the wheels in a few weeks.

    winter prep/product recomendations

My PC7424 died last Fall getting my vehicles ready for winter and I went with Meguiar's DAPS as the replacement (even had to buy a corded drill since I didn't have one). I used it for the first time this Spring and love it. The 3" pads make it easier to get into tight spaces, it is more...

Hobbyist Wheel Coating - DP vs. OptiCoat?

Before winter sets in I want to get the alloy wheels, including the wheel barrels, coated on the wife's minivan (a 2012 Chrysler T&C). I am torn between the new DP Wheel Coating and OptiCoat 2.0. The DP product seems more user-friendly but only lasts about a year, whereas the OptiCoat 2.0 is...

    Maguires Ultimate Wax

Meguiar's Ultimate line-up is my new favorite. My PC 7424 died last Fall while applying multiple coats of DG so I bought Meg's Power DA (drill-based) system with UP and ULW. I used it last weekend and I am a convert! I loved using it and my car never looked better.

Black Silverado HD gets Meguiar's Black Wax for some High Definition in the paint!

I think the "excellent cleaner/secondly a polish" is the White Wax. The Black Wax would be an "excellent polish/secondly a cleaner".

    2013 Accord V6 - Full Correction 30+hrs - Immaculate Reflections

WOW! Where is this gloss coming from - the P085RD or the 845? Or is it a combo of those products, black paint and the lighting?

Yes, another giveaway. Next up, Mothers.

I love Reflections - very under rated. Gone in 60 is great as well.

    Metro Giveaway

Definitely the Vac N Blow. In one corner would be the Vac N Blow. In the other corner would be my Chrysler T&C. My three kids have had their way with the interior since the onset of winter - is the vacuum up to the challenge? Is the blower strong enough to air dry the minivan before it...

Looking for detailer in Simi Valley (CA)

My parents have a 2010 Hyundai Sonata in non-metallic black. It is garaged in great condition except for some very minor swirling and... a botched paint touch-up experience. He used a Du Pont paint touch-up stick and ended up smearing the product which has now cured. I don't live nearby to...

    Winterized my Subie with Duragloss

My understanding is that it only accelerates the curing process so that you can do multiple coats in one day, sort of like Zaino ZFX.

    Winterized my Subie with Duragloss

@dcjredline, @KoshieL, @SubieMonte, @BobbieG, @MadMerc - Thanks for the compliments. @rwwright - I mixed them myself right before application. "Disappearing" is exactly the way to describe it. Glad to know that is typical. @Shortspark - I used LC CCS pads and yes the colors refer to the...

    Winterized my Subie with Duragloss

I got my white pearl '12 Subaru Legacy ready for winter. I clayed it and went with three coats of DuraGloss due to its reputation for durability. There are no before pics - the car was in good shape and looked new. Here is the obligatory after pic: For those who use Duragloss, I have a...

What are your winter prep plans?

Just got my shipments the last two weeks and plan on the following later this month: - Clean wheels with Griot's Wheel Cleaner and Daytona wheel brush and Griot's lug nut brush - Clean wheel wells with Mothers' wheel well brush - Clay paint and glass with Griot's paint clay - Three coats of...

    Feedback on pendingfirst order

Thanks Mike. It's an honor to get a response from the legend himself! :) I like the suggestion of getting an orange pad, but I will probably add it to the list instead of replacing anything. Is there a polish you would recommend for a newbie? I think I would be OK with the 501 as I get just...

    Feedback on pendingfirst order

With the current promo this newbie is finally going to place his first order. Can someone let me know if I missed something or should make a change? I currently have a non-XP 7424 with a 6" backing plate, Mothers clay, Duragloss 501/601/105 and two new/newer light peaslescent/metallic cars...

    New Car Technique

I would like to give Duragloss a try and this seems to be the consensus of which products to use. Just curious, especially for a new or well maintained car, why you wouldn't use 601/105 followed by 601/111 instead? I believe the 105 is less aggressive than the 501 and the 111 is a pure sealant...

    Attracting quality cars and customers

From a customer's perspective, I would offer the following: 1. Your site uses Adobe Flash which means iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad) can't access it. And, unless the user installs Flash, Mac users can't access it as Apple no longer includes Flash in their factory image. Seems to...
