Using alcohol to clean up sap on car paint

I recently saw some sap on the hood of a car. I used isopropyl alcohol to remove the sap, which it did rather quickly. I read a lot about using alcohol on paint, and read that it removes everything on top of the paint itself, so I went ahead and applied some wax. After reading through 10-15...

Causes of water spots: application or water or not drying or??

I will be buying a new soap only product, as well as a wash and wax, and I've been reading reviews on different products, and seeing a decent number of people complaining about water spots after using a given product. I have not had a problem with water spots, with either a dedicated soap, or...

    Recommended black plastic trim product?

Thanks. I'll do that. I would have thought that the product I apply would clean it off, but I can apply some cleaner with a toothbrush, and then use the product to restore/protect. I see three products that you two have mentioned. Are they pretty much six of one, half a dozen of the other? Or...

Wash and wax for extending the life of wax layer

At this point, I'm trying to avoid the labor of waxing more often than I have to. Instead of using another product after washing, I'm thinking I might as well just apply more wax, than another temporary product that will not provide as much long lasting protection as a wax. At least, that's my...

    Recommended black plastic trim product?

I'm in between major auto maintenance, so I'd like to start on some minor stuff. I have black plastic trim on the doors, as well as a luggage rack, and would like to restore them to something like the original color. They all have a lot of white marks (i assume from wax). What product would...

Wash and wax for extending the life of wax layer

I see what you mean about dilution ratio. My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the $48 price tag on blackfire, but then saw 1 oz for 3 gallons. Meguiars UW&W is 1 oz per 1 gallon of soap. So you really need to divide the $48 by 3, to compare apples to apples. Oh wait, blackfire is a full...

Wash and wax for extending the life of wax layer

I have heard about sealants and NuFinish. I will explore them when my two bottles of wax that I currently have, are out. Right now, though, I'm still in the Stone Age working with wax. I am suspecting that one of the reasons why my two wax products (Collinite and Turtle Wax) lasted so long on...

Ash from forest fire--bad for paint?

What about ash would require this much work? I have read that bird poop has a lot of uric acid, which would eat through layers of wax and paint. But what is it in ash that would require anything more than lightly brushing it off?

Ash from forest fire--bad for paint?

    Just a few flakes.

Ash from forest fire--bad for paint?

When ash from a nearby forest fire ends up on your car's paint--does this do any damage to the paint itself? I'm just talking about a few flakes, not being totally smothered in the stuff.

Steady stream vs. nozzle spray for rinsing before & after using car soap

Interesting. I don't see oodles of water stuck to the paint now, most likely because I live in a dry desert climate. I was thinking it would have more to do with the soap itself. I'll have to try the steady stream and see if there is less work drying.

Steady stream vs. nozzle spray for rinsing before & after using car soap

Occasionally I see instructions (for applying car soap), that you should rinse the car either before and/or after, to use the water running from the hose in a steady stream, as opposed to using a nozzle. (1) What is the reason for this? (2) For those that have tried this, is there any...

    Black plastic door handles

Briarpatch, please post back in a month or two when you have come up with a winner. I have discolored door handles and want to know which of these two products worked best.

There must be some type of bug in the notification setup. I JUST got AZSteve's post--a notification in my inbox 46 minutes ago.

Repeated thread notifications days after the post

I have got 3 threads of notifications in my trash folder, each of which have notifications for several posts to a thread I started. I'm getting more than one notification for each post. For example, today, I got 3 notifications from AGO, notifying me of posts---the last of which was done on the...

Bottled treatment for scratches on paint?

If I can't get it out myself, I'd probably just live with it. I saw one video recommending that you try a product out in an inconspicuous place like the inside of the door, so you know how to apply it. What can go wrong? I mean, why do I have to worry about hurting the paint's finish?

Bottled treatment for scratches on paint?

If it is possible to goof up the paint, then what are the dangers? Is it just not in following directions? Or are there particular products that are bad? or what?

Bottled treatment for scratches on paint?

OK, if both answers are yes, then does anyone have any recommendations for which products to get/avoid?

Bottled treatment for scratches on paint?

I was shopping in car parts stores today when I saw some bottles promoting their ability to remove scratches. (1) Can any liquid solution from a bottle work on significantly reducing or eliminating scratches in paint? I have two areas (one on each car) that I'd like to treat, if I could. They...
