    How to Get Deep Gloss

Thanks for all the advice. It's real late here in California and I just got in. I made a few errors in my posting. The pads were Lake Country, not Cobra. I asked the same question on the Festool Forum and learned that my machine is not a DA device in the sense that American equipment is. The...

    How to Get Deep Gloss

1994 Toyota Camry. Repainted white (same color) in December. painted on a cool day. 1-Day did the job. Their medium grade Sinclair Polyurethane. They advised letting the coat cure for 90 days. I've restored cars, and had them painted. This painter earned a B+ in my opinion. Good flow out. Few...

    Pads and Machines

The 150 in the model name of the Festool stands for 150mm. That equals 6". Most pads are slightly oversized. I've got some Cobra pads that are 6.5". It's not critical. In most buffing and polishing procedures you want to watch out to not use the edge because that is a quick way to burn through...

    Window Squeegee?

Who makes or sells a cheap window wiper with a handle? My $7 wonder from Pep Boys has hardened up and isn't doing a good job. I would prefer one with about an 18 inch handle.

    Cleaning Chrome/Steel Wheels

thanks to all of you. i washed the car late in the day and it was in shade. I looked at it this morning in the bright sun and the chrome is flawless. FALSE ALARM. Lucky me. That Griot's wheel cleaner sure does a nice job. I think I can answer my own question about MF pads and clothes used in...

    Cleaning Chrome/Steel Wheels

I bought some of Griot's Chrome Wheel cleaner along with the 3-finger mitts from from AG. My Toyota Camry is 18 years old. I had the wheels acid washed about 5 months ago. Today I used the Griot's and the foam finger-mitts to clean them and there are a few surfaces where the chrome looks like...

How to Use Tape when Buffing?

A few of you mentioned body lines. Do you mean high points, such as the crown of a fender or bend in a truck lid? Do those places get taped? I know it's easy with a buffer to try to round off a crown, so that spot is liable to burn through.

How to Use Tape when Buffing?

'94 Camry Coupe. Painted 90 days ago - white. Will be using Festool RO sander/buffer w/ Lake Country pads. Griot's #4 polish. It has been 3 decades since I polished a car. I viewed the demo Videos here, and taping is a foreign concept to me. What portions of the body do I tape? And afterwards...

    Foammaster.

My foam cannon is the $29 special from Griot's. I used it first with Griot's shampoo, then tried it last week with DP's Xtreme Foam. Following their l:4 dilution ratio didn't give me the lubrication I wanted, so next time I'll use 1:3 soap-to-water. The wash went fine, at 1:4. No complaints.

I've had a good run with car shampoos recently....

Today I used DP Exteme Foam in a foam cannon for the first time. Dilution for non-bucket use is suggested at l:3 or 1:4. I used 1:4 but would like a bit more lubrication, so I'll bump it up a bit next time. The wash was about the same as Griots, the only other shampoo I've tried. Cleaning...

    Wolfgang Sealer?

On a Toyota Camry (2DR), how long will a 16oz bottle of Wolfgang's last me? Or, how many oz per application is common?

Need a new DA polisher, recommendations?

My main experience with modern power tools is limited to WoodWorking equpt. And I happen to own a lot Festool, including their RO 150 DA sander. Rotary or Random Orbital switch. Three decades ago I owned a Sioux right angle grinder and refinished and polished cars with it. The industry standard...

Question on polishing metals (on aircraft)

I worked in Air Operations at FedEx (not Maintenance). Because of the velocities of the air at the inlet, those Nacell trims are hardened. So don't be shy about the abrasives you use. I know that for buffing the windshields on 747s, the guys in the paint shop used over-the-counter 3M glass...

    Pads and Machines

Thanks 5.4. I'm ordering the Lake Country pads today. Along with some DP Shampoo for my foam gun. The paint job is 2/3 of the way through a 90 wait period before I polish in order to cure. In the 70s when I painted cars with lacquer, you could comfortably do repair on the paint 1 hour after...

    Pads and Machines

The Griot's #4 polish arrived. Now, after reading some of the threads here on this forum I want decided on using Lake Country pads on my Festool sander. It isn't clear on the Autogeeks website which Lake Country pads I need. I think I'd prefer the Constant Pressure type. But, which color would...

    Foam Gun Advantages?

Thanks. Even to you guys who aren't sold on Foam Guns. The video link was especially helpful. I now see that the object is to avoid dragging grit and grime back and forth over the paint while washing. So, a delicate technique is needed. Just that alone is a real lesson. And I understand how the...

    Foam Gun Advantages?

I bought one from Griot's for personal use. Don't really know what they do. Is it to save trips to a bucket, save water, economize on soap, for better cleaning action on the paint? Why do folks use the guns?

    heater for a freezing garage...recommendations?

Built two shops for woodworking. And worked with HVAC designers to buy eqpt for two new houses. If your structure is insulated, with your kind of weather, I would go with electric. Ace Hardware stores offer a 14,000 btu portable 220v for about $125. Move it close to you at will so you don't...
