10 grammar mistakes that make you look stupid

What about when people don't use a space between two words... For example "TornadoRed" Im the MAN

The bad news is if I make a mistake, I'm going to get a bunch of flak for it since I started this thread. The good news is it won't be from CEE DOG, because he won't know the difference. :poke:

Another travesty of ignorance:

using "bumber" instead of "bumper."

UUUUUURRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

Jim

YES! That one drives me up the wall in the worst possible way. I mean seriously, can't people just say the word out loud and tell that there's definitely a "p" sound coming out of their mouths that needs to be accounted for somewhere in the word's spelling?

I also get really annoyed with people who spell Camaro as "Camero" -- again, clearly there's an "a" sound that goes MIA when an "e" is inserted into the word.

:D Good point TR. Which means might want to fix that user name or take that risk every time you post! :poke:

Not a grammatical issue, but more one of pronunciation.
I was in construction for many years, my pet peeve.
ASHFAULT......arrrggghhhh it's pronounced assfault (asphalt)

That's weird, I've never heard it called ASHFAULT before.

Watch out Dana :bat:, I think John's going after you (he called you assfault)

I have a friend who likes carmel sundaes. I've corrected him, more than once, gently mentioning that it's car-a-mel. Carmel is a town in California.

As much as I consider myself a grammar Nazi...

Mark

I hate people who use Nazi in conjunction with the most trivial things.

Grammar Nazi?

If you consider yourself a Grammar Nazi, I take it you have raped, looted, started world wars and sent grammar offenders to death camps where you worked them to death or gassed them in rooms marked "Showers."

It's no wonder high school kids in 2010 have absolutely no idea who the Nazis were and how many millions of deaths they were responsible for.

Claiming you are a Nazi just a few decades ago could have put on the trial docket at Nuremberg with a death sentence.

DO NOT TRIVIALIZE "NAZI."

Holy parts of speech Batman!

Please don't start diagramming sentences...WAY to many bad memories of HS school English classes.

I assume then that you were pretty pissed off with the reference to "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld?

Yes. My mother was a Catholic survivor of Auschwitz and I've met many Jewish survivors of Nazi death camps who think Seinfeld is a moron.

Maybe you would feel differently if YOUR mother's personal physician was Josef Mengele.

I hope you didn't get the impression that I was defending it. In fact I tend to agree with you that the term "Nazi" is used far too freely and loosely, which only serves to diminish the meaning and history behind that word.
