this car was my old car i sold to a fllow 3 years ago. i detail it for him once a year. this time it was a challenge! this was the process:
clay
wet sand (2000) where needed
3m finishing polish (waiting for my presta to arrive!) to correct wet sanding
106ff complete
fpII complete

That's some talent Richy. Did you use the wool pad on all steps of your process?
 
That's awesome just awesome! On to 3m finishing polish to correct the wet sanding. Did you used a rotary? What pad and what speed? Same question on 106ff and fpII?

No, only to correct the wet sanding with the 3m

Yes, I used a rotary. I used my old one that is a fixed speed at about 2300 rpm..it's pretty fast, one must be careful using it (hence the new one!;)). The 2 menzerna products were used with my new rotary at anywhere from 1000 to 2500 rpm.

Thanks, may I ask what pad and size? I have the edge2k flat and wave. I am having problems (tails) with them on my rotary, thinking about going up in size or even changing brands. They do work great with my PC.

No I don't, but astute sense of observation! When I was 21, single and living at home, I bought a 1971 Lamborghini Miura S which I owned for 3 years. I have my personalized "Lambo 1" plates still too...boy I miss that car!!

The pads are 6" pads that I get from a local body shop supply. The wool pads are old (I haven't used them in ages) and the foam maybe from 3m, I'm not sure. The blue is for polishing, it was used for the fpII and the white was for compounding and was used for the 106ff. That combo finishes off so well that I skipped the fpII for the front air dam and some lower surfaces. I think the 106ff is my favourite product! Just keep going over it and the tails should disappear if you are using 106ff. I am looking forward to comparing the presta, i think it will be a little more aggresive than the menz, but is supposed to finish off as well..we'll see.

That's a beautiful car. With 12 carbs it must have been great on gas. ;) You should have keep it. One in good condition really goes for a lot of money today. Now that you mention it you can see part of your Lambo 1 plate in the same reflection as your Lamborghini Dr. sign.

Man some one has skills....MAD SKILLS!! First of all those were some mean scratches and you got it to look like amirror...very nice. Now, you said your rotary is stuck on 2300 rpm....man you must have skills to work with that thing. I'm still new to the rotary and I haven't gone past 1500 rpm....baby steps here baby steps hahaha.

You sir, will fit in just fine here....wispering....as long as you don't mind answering a few hundred questions here and there :D

Don't be afraid of the speed..I think some products are helped by it. Once i have spread the product around with it off, i turn it on and move the product quickly around the area I am working, then i push on it and work the area...that itself slows the polisher down. Then I let up and move it more quickly. that's how i get the correction and corresponding shine. I was trained by some very good people.

Yea, the speed is actually not to bad it's knowing what to do with the speed that's the trick...I suppose it all takes practice and I've posted my test vehicle. I sure wished I had someone to train me up, so far I know of a few people but either they are to busy to come over or are out of town, but hopefully soon I'm going to con them in to coming over and spending a full day giving me tips on how to use the rotary properly..:D

Oh, I had a question for you. You mentioned you used a blue pad and a white pad. When you say blue and white, what kind of pads are they. Aren't they finishing pads? Not polishing pads? I know that depending on the aggressiveness of the polish you use you would use a less abrasive pad is this why you used a blue and a white pad? Just wondering, I know 3M uses different types of foam and if I'm not mistaken there color don't match up with LC...or am I wrong?
