105/205 combo leaving white like overspray dots

I work the section until it goes clean on the paint then wipe off the area with a quick mist of water and a MF towel to inspect my work.

What about the oils in 105..will water clean it up for inspection?

Actually at this point in a correction I have no doubt that there will be some very fine stuff that will be cleaned up with 205 in the next phase of the correction so what I am actually looking for is to see if the deeper scratches or defects have been removed. Water works just fine for that. After the 205 I either re wash the car entirely with a little degreaser mixed in with the Gold Class soap or I use a mixture of Film Buster glass cleaner and ONR as a final wipe down before applying an LSP.

Makes good sense Dave. Just thought you might be finishing down with 105. Some can I guess, but I'm not that good to do that.

Sometimes I do that on white or silver cars. but I'm not good enough to do that with black or dark green or dark red etc.

I had the same issue when I started using 105/205 on DA. But like tuscarora dave said, I think it's part of the learning curve. I don't have the problem anymore. I payed more attention to the speed, product, and when it was happening. As soon as I see it, I clean it up. I tried to use some qd on it but that didn't help. The only thing I found that helped was going over the affected area again and paying more attention.

I sometimes doubt those who say that they can finish down on dark colors with 105 alone. I sure would like to see it in overhead sunlight.

I've heard people use the analogy that "You can only kick a dog so many times before it runs away." The same logic applies here because there's not much worse in detailing than at the end of a long day realizing that you have the "White dot terror" to clean up. You find a way to prevent it after dealing with it so many times.

I guess it depends on your level of OCD. I think folks who frequent and keep coming back to online detailing forums tend to practice at getting a better, more over the top gloss as a personal challenge. I guess not all people are wired that way and some are OK with the finish they get with 105 alone on dark colors. I can't stop there.

My mom's rav4 has the same looking white dots explained here. It was like that when she picked it up from the dealer after having them put on the "paint protection" applied. they are VERY stubborn to remove! So does anybody have any idea how to remove them? I have my flex 3401 in transit as i type this. Can i hit it with some ult compound to remove them?

If you are able to get them off with the UC you'll be removing whatever "Paint Protection" the dealer applied on it so be prepared to re-seal it.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Why not take it back to the dealer and let them correct it?

Thank you for all your replies guys.

Back to the starting point of this tread - the tread was posted a few months ago in "Ask the Expert featuring Mike Phillips". It is very interesting that the expert didn't provide any view on the topic, as I believe that leaving cement like dots on the paint after using the 105 is something that shouldn't be simply ignored; however it should be discussed and rectified/corrected by the manufacturer, as there is obviously a PROBLEM with the above.

I have also sent a PM to Jason Rose whom I understand is from Meguiars and personally involved in the 105 creation/development (if I'm not mistaken). He either didn't bother to provide any explanation to this.

Very interesting approach from both ..

I've given up on m105. I switched to 3m Compound (perfect-it) and freeking love it. Soo much easier to clean up. The amount of time I save from NOT having to clean up m105 is well worth any sacrifice in how well it finishes down. I was so over spending hours trying to get the dots off or the "cement" off of behind door handles/in door jams. Seems like more people have problems with M105 then don't.....

I have also switched to Menzerna PG 500, 1000 and 1500. but the question still remains ..

I'm very curious as to why this problem, which no one from Megs or AG wants to address and discuss.?!

I have not tried it, but isn't Opt Compound purported to cut, finish and remove better than M105?

FWIW, I had quite the learning curve with M105, but now after fiddling with it for over 2 years, it's as easy to use as any other polish I have. It didn't take me that long to figure it out, that took about 3 cars. Have compounded many more since.

Edit: Ok, maybe it's not as easy to use as any other polish I have, but it still is easy.
