Hey team. :xyxthumbs:

So the other day I picked up this sweet 1950’s 7” Black & Decker Vitrifier off a local auction website down here in lil’ ol’ New Zealand.

The tool is a bit on the heavy side for sure but very well balanced in hand & yes, it still runs perfectly. It’s beautifully made & it oozes quality, must’ve been quite the tool in its day. :buffing:

Although I guess - things were made a bit different back then too. Made stronger, built to last kinda thing. Still, I’d rather be swinging around a Flex PE-14 than this Black & Decker.

Right, onto some pictures.

I had hoped that this advert may have been on paper & arrived with the tool but it didn’t. I did however print it out & save a digital picture of it to. A cool piece on its own.

The tool itself.

There ya have it. A real sweet machine indeed. I would actually like to buff out a car with it one day just ‘coz’ because it runs so nice & feels good in hand. Actually to note - it feels ‘short’ a lot shorter than modern machines, I kinda dig that too. :buffing:

Thank you all for checking in & having a look. :props:

I love seeing the old school machines. Looks like a '50's era wool pad too! What's the seperate t-handle thingie for?

Wow, now that is a real piece of machinery. That was way before Stanley diluted the brand and brought down the quality of everything under their umbrella. I wonder if you could retrofit a modern buffing pad or backing plate on that spindle. We would love to see it in action.

wow, i can only imagine how many cars that have buffed out with that...

Ive got one from 1964 , and it still works great. Back in the mid-60s I use to do detailing on the side. Later my uncles hobby was restoring old VW s, and I would use the buffer to buf out new lacquer paint.

That is pretty cool. How loud is it?

Thanks a Desertnate. :xyxthumbs:

I haven’t the equipment to measure that but it doesn’t appear much louder than many other tools. I’ll see if I can make a video comparison, that may give some idea. :buffing:

Wow! Look at that old beast!

Cheers dlc95. :xyxthumbs:

Thank you Paul A. :xyxthumbs:

Yeah me too. I like seeing the patina on them too, it tells a story. Haha, yeah I think the wool pad is definitely of the same era. The T handle thingie is for changing the backing plate. :buffing:

Looks like it weighs about 20 lbs, LOL!

Thanks Kassel Act. :xyxthumbs:

I shall weigh it & get back to you on that one. It’s definitely heavier but not a lot heavier than my RUPES RULH22EN. It feels nice in hand but perhaps buffing out a whole car could turn into a workout.

Thank you UncleDavy. :xyxthumbs:

Yeah sad how that happens huh. I will have a look at that today & see if I have something that’ll fit. :buffing:

Thank you VISITOR. :xyxthumbs:

That’d be some great information to have. Appreciate your comments buddy! :Picture:

Awesome! You’re gonna have to share some pictures of it. Nice - VW’s are my passion too. :props:

That is super cool!!!! Great find and really cool to use it!

Thanks Scott. :xyxthumbs:

I definitely want to buff something with it, I’m gonna take a look today & see if I have a baking plate that fits . . . . Or I’ll have to go ‘old school’ & get a new tie on wool bonnet.

Very cool Aaryn.

Thanks for sharing.

I can only imagine how many cars were perfectly swirled out with that pad.

Thank you Mike. :xyxthumbs:

Hahaha very very true Mike, cringe fest. :nomore:

Now this is awesome!

Love seeing old tools that were built like Sherman tanks.

Thanks for the post, Aaryn!!

Hey Paul A. :xyxthumbs:

Here’s a couple of pictures taking the backing plate off & what the T handle thing or is for.

Awesome tool Aaryn!

Sorry for not reply to your PM but your inbox where full.

Looks like it could compound really great with the newer backing plate :)

Hey Tony. :xyxthumbs:

Indeed it does mate. I have a video of it in action, kinda a comparison clip for reference to the noise of it compared to a Flex 3401 - isn’t too noisy at all & I always wear ear protection/headphones anyway so noise doesn’t bother me. Can see it on our Facebook page if anyone wants to - Ange N Aaryn Nicholson | Facebook - video clip is the last picture/video on that post.

Sorry about that mate - cleared Inbox now. :xyxthumbs:

Couldn't find it Aaryn?

Upload the video to your business Facebook page as a "stand alone" video. Then it will show up in your video folder. One there, you can click on the video and get the URL address. Get the URL address and then copy and paste into a message here and enclose it in the video tags.

Looks like this

Look at the picture below. Look for where I typed,

You can also click on this button and follow the line I drew using that awesome software Microsoft Paint

And then copy and paste the URL address into the dialog box that pops up.

Notice I'm typing in Code View and then taking a screenshot before posting this reply. :)
