When I was a kid back in the late 70's a buddy had a '70 Olds 442. Much fun was had, & much hell was raised in that car. So when another buddy came to me recently about detailing his 442, I anxiously said Yes! It's not every day I get to take a trip down memory lane, & rub on a classic musclecar.
The car was restored & painted in base/clear about 17 years ago, & it's been a garage queen ever since. Going over it I found very little little swirling or other imperfections. The ones I did find were easily taken care of with HD Adapt & a cutting pad. But the paint just seemed dull, so after claying I went over the whole car with HD Polish. I then gave it a coat of HD Poxy for protection.
The chrome had spots & other assorted crud on it from years of not being polished, so I grabbed a bottle of Mother's Chrome Polish & started rubbing. Man, this thing has a LOT of chrome! Cleaned the glass, & the wheels & tires. Tomorrow morning I'll do the engine compartment & it'll be ready to deliver. This one was a lot of fun!

Cool car. Makes me want to grab a 6pac and go do some doughnuts in a high school parking lot, if it was like forty years ago.:xyxthumbs:

I love those cars. And you made that one look fantastic. :dblthumb2:

That reflection shot of the hood stripe is just incredible.

Nice work on a very cool car !!!

Nice! No products on the vinyl top?

Interesting question! I forgot to mention that I cleaned it with Poorboy's Spray & Wipe. I want to treat it with something, but I don't want it to attract dust. I'd say the 2 best things in my arsenal a UTTG+ & Poorboy's Leather Stuff. Recommendations?

Thanx! It helps that the stripes are painted & cleared over. So hard to get good reflection pics of gold.

My only criticism is.....only 4 pics of an awesome car like that??? Just kidding, man.....nice work on a slammin ride

I was holding off until today because I knew it was supposed to be sunny!

Did the vinyl roof this morning with UTTG+

All done & ready to deliver.

they are working (at least for me) now....what a beast...thanks for sharing

No idea what's wrong, although I do have that problem on my phone sometimes.

Absolutely beautiful car, and great work!!

A friend of my father's had a 70 442 W-30 back when I was a young kid. After a ride in that car, I was hooked!

Ok, sorry to get all wonky on you...first of all, how did the UTTG+ work on that vinyl roof? Were you using the original (oily) version, or the newer water-based one?

Second, I see that car has real cold air intake...what exactly is that vacuum actuator on top of the air cleaner doing? It almost looks like whatever it is opening would bypass the air filter.

And third, is the humidity really low enough in Indiana that you can have all that stuff in your garage without it getting wrecked?

It's the water based one. I don't know that I would've tried the old oil one. I debated what to use on the roof, & it came down to UTTG+. I put really light coats on & rubbed a lot to keep it even.

I haven't worked on one of these mechanically since the late 70's/early 80's, but vacuum closes the flap until you get on it. Then it opens. The cold air is still routed through the air cleaner, & there are holes in the bottom of the housing for water to escape.

No, it gets pretty humid here in the summer. Just hasn't been very warm yet. I'm assuming you're referring to my products? I keep everything in the garage through the summer, but I take it all indoors for the winter.

I completely understand! What year is yours? Looks like maybe a '74 in the picture? My buddy went through a 68 Hurst Olds, & 69 Hurst Olds, a regular '70 442, & a '70 W-30. All of which I'm sure he wishes he still had today, especially every year when we go to the Mecum auction here in Indy! The prices those cars bring today are incredible!

I was really referring to the wood shelves, and picture frames (and pictures), etc. In my garage I'd be concerned that stuff would get mildewed or something.
