So I read mentioned somewhere here about this chemical......... that it is found in Simple Green and supposedly very bad stuff for you.

I cannot remember who made that comment. So I started looking up other stuff that also has this chemical in it.

It is a LOONG list of stuff besides just Simple Green.

So in the end my question is, do APC have this stuff in them too?

Which ones don't?

Recommendations on cheap AND effective ones?

I believe that this chemical is used as a solvent in many APC's. I believe it causes headaches and probably isn't good to repeatedly get on your skin over the course of years. It may be labeled as butyl. I try to stay away from it. It's mostly found it very cheap products, as it's very cheap to produce.

Many, many "cleaners" contain this organic solvent.

The MSDS's for the APC's, etc. should have the information you're looking for.
If no MSDS is made available...I don't use them.


And/But...
Don't be lulled into a sense of not having to use caution by 2-butoxyethanol not being specifically listed on a product's MSDS...
It has an arm's-length of synonyms it also goes by!!

Are "cleaners" that contain citrus (d-limonene) as their solvent, be less detrimental
to the environment and Human's health...than the crap that was being referenced above?

I like dlimonene products for removing tar and grime. I've used lots of them from Spartan, Hillyard, etc.

Matter fact, I just ordered some P21S TAW to see how it compares to some of the stuff I'm using. I have a feeling it's going to be good.

Is it safer than 2-butoxyethanol? Seems to depend on who you ask and what their agenda is.

I feel like d-limonene is probably safer for humans but not so good for our fish friends.

I spray dlimonene products on lower panels before a detail, and wipe off with a microfiber towel (designated for lower panels), before doing any rinsing or washing. It's pretty thick so it doesn't run off before wiping. In my mind, this prevents, at least the majority of it from going down the drain.

Don't know how affective it will be as a "cleaner" for vehicles though.

I've noticed that, due to :rulez:..."Adams" doesn't get much Love on the AGO forum...

Meguiar's makes good products.
That's a pretty good price for a couple gallons of concentrated APC.

This is considered to be a Professional product!!
Make sure to dilute appropriately and wear recommended PPE.


NOTE:
It does contain that much discussed 2-butoxyethanol.

PS: How do you feel about cleaning products containing SODIUM METASILICATE?
 
D101 has been reported to cause severe headaches by some of the members here. It does have an odd smell. I prefer D103 APC+...which actually contains a trace of d-limonene if my memory serves me right.
 
Okay so then D101 is out for me.

May try the other.

Can't understand why this is so hard. Lol

I may just get white vinegar:(
 
Try D103. I've never had one problem with it diluted between 10-1 and 4-1.

Lot's of guys use it on this forum. I could be wrong but I think APC+ (d103) and OPC are about the most popular apc's on this forum.

I still don't see any d-limonene listed as one of D103's ingredients!

There's no: 2-butoxyethanol listed in its MSDS...But does have some:
Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether...

OOPS!!! That is one of the synonyms of 2-butoxyethanol!!!

It also contains some: Sodium Metasilicate.

IMO:
Not much difference between D101 and D103 except some "foaming issues"!
