2005 Black VW Fox with MASSIVE swirls - looked like grafitti

Not the fanciest car around but it was a good challenge and that's what I like. This car is owned by a friend of mine who hired a "detailer" to polish it and the result was bad...I had never ever seen swirls as heavy as those.

GAMEPLAN
The car had 0 contamination/overspray. Proceeded to a regular wash with snowfoam and Megs MF wash mitt.

1. Hood:
Was resprayed in the past. Used CQuarts Denim pad and SONAX Abrasive Polish to reduce the orange peel, trying to match with the original orange peel...very hard but we got close.
After that, refined using RUPES on RUPES Yellow Pad and SONAX Perfect Finish.

2. Rest of the car: Taking a test spot and using the least agressive method I decided that the most effective way to remove the swirls was to start with SONAX Abrasive Polish, Megs Burgundy Cutting pad on a ROTARY, followed by RUPES LHR15, RUPES yellow PAD and Sonax Perfect finish.

Did all the procedures under halogen light. After doing the driver's door, decided to pull the car out and check it under the sun light. I was pretty happy with the results.

After doing the whole car, I foamed it again, to remove all dust. Dried it carefully and protected with Mothers sealant and waxed with Collinite Marque D'Elegance.

Hope you guys like it

See you

That previous detailer should be taken outside and shot. Those holograms were HORRENDOUS. Great save!

Looks like the previous guy used a Scotch Brite pads on a rotary! OUCH!!

Great work on bringing that back!

Thanks RevitalizeAutoSpa, could not agree more with you.
Those were the worst holograms so far.

See you man

Hey damaged442, your definition says it all.
Had never seen swirls like those

Thanks man

Wooah! Yuk! That WAS terrible. Great job fixing that mess mate, fantastic workmanship! :dblthumb2:

That's not a restoration, it's a resurrection! :props:

Given the age of the car and lack of normal maintenance one should expect defects, especially in black. This car not only had mega swirls, it clearly shows signs of some pretty handy rotary buffer work!

Beautiful work! :props:

I'm always trolling the VW threads for love given to my favorite cars.

After 3 days it rose from the dead, Jesus style!

Nice work.

No matter how many times I see hack work like this I still find myself surprised that in this day and age there are people out there doing this type of work.

Nice save undoing someone else's damage.

:dblthumb2:

Thanks a lot Mike :xyxthumbs:

Thanks BobbyG...and you are 100% right. I actually know the guy who did all that damage to the car and yes, he does not wash the pads he uses...add this to the fact he uses a wool pad and a very agressive compound and you get those bad swilrs.

Thanks for your kind words man

See you

It's this guy, right?

Dear Vinharski,

it's not uncommon for customers to ask me 'What's the most difficult paint to work on?',

but my answer is always impartial. It's true in my beliefs that every car / paint is a different and a huge challenge...

If you're trying to get the REAL results, it's an extensive routine - be it red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple or pink - if you know what I mean.

Indeed, my customers are never happy with my answer (hahaha)... and they always insist in hearing a 'definitive answer': PLEASE, pick up one!

__
A: 'ok, if I had to choose an option, that would be the solid colors on entry / medium line vehicles',

which remit the exactly paint you are showing here.

This is the reason a 2005 VW Fox (not even close to a show car) gains such status in my book - I love the show cars - but watching a work like this touches the soul of any car lover.

Amazing turnaround, wonderful pictures and follow-up.

Great to see you again,

keep the threads coming!

Thank you for sharing,

Kind Regards (from Brazil).
