2008 BMW 335i

This customer was not a referral. He came to me after viewing my website. He has a 2008 335i that has been parked outside for quite some time. He brought it to me for a quote, but it was so dirty that it was hard to give an accurate number. He advised there were quite a few chips to be filled too. I ended up taking one hour longer than quoted. This was a 15 hour job. In all honesty, I don't think I've had a dirtier car to clean. It's a gorgeous machine and I really wanted it to look like it should. Hopefully I succeeded....




As it arrived:

I really like the wheels and the contrast the have to the paint. I was looking forward to spending some time on them!

This is where the toll of storage was taken. What was worse than this was what was under the hood. There was so much leaf and tree debris, that I needed to get my PF51 wet vac out and suck them all out of the many hiding places they had found. I swear I took 15 minutes just doing that!

Other challenges were there too...

It took at least twice as long as normal just to power wash away all the debris all over the car. Next up was to foam it with a mix of Megs Hyper Wash and DG 901.

I knew there would be a ton of contamination on the paint, so after the foam and a wash with DG 901, the car was then washed again with IronX soap gel applied to a grout sponge.

I then brought it inside and blew off the wheels with the Master Blaster and clayed the car and glass with the CarPro clay block. I couldn't believe how it was grabbing the block, even after the IX wash! This paint was going to take some work to get back in shape, that's for sure!

Paint Correction:

The hood was the worse. There were some scratches in it that were quite deep. I even tried to wet sand a few of the worse ones with 3G sanding discs. There was lots of clear to work with, but I did not want to dig so far into the clear to get the worse ones out. Most of them were removed, but I'd say 10% of them were not worth the price in clear coat removal to chase. I refuse to thin out a paint job to a dangerous point just to chase some scratches; it's just not worth it! The method for scratch removal was rotary+ TB black wool + M100 or Power Gloss where required. That stage was followed with my new B/S cutting mf pad + M205. That combo did a great job. The rest of the car got Flex + TB wool + M100 for the first stage and either M205 + B/S cutting pad or a B/S white pad, depending on the area. There were a large amount of chips that needed to be filled in.

Paint Coating Prep:


Even though the 205 was looking so good, I wanted to make sure it was the true finish, so I went over each panel (as well as all the glass) with DG Squeaky Clean by hand via foam pad and then removed with a mf. I went over the area with an ONR dampened mf to make sure no residual product was left behind.


Windshield:

The windshield got Opt Pro glass coating.

Paint/Glass/Wheels:

The rest of the car got coated with OG, including paint, the remaining glass and the wheels.

The exhaust tips were polished with 0000 steel wool and Colli Metal wax.

The tires were sprayed with DG wet shine via an air gun and then leveled with a tire applicator.

The barrels (and faces) were sprayed with Permanon via spray gun and then blown off with an air gun.

The paint was given a final wipe down with UWW.

Thanks! I had a few people comment that they loved the colour and how unique it was on a BMW. The wheels are the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
