Started on the truck 2 weeks ago. Due to work schedules and weather I couldn’t finish it until yesterday. I have plenty of Uber Compound left but wanted to check out HD CUT. Using a new orange pad for each, I tested them out on the hood.
First was Wolfgang Uber Compound. As expected, it did a great job. However, just from the one small section I got dust all over with the light but constant breeze. After reading all about HD CUT here I did NOT prime the pad. Just used 3 nickel sized drops. WOW! It finished 90% as nicely as Uber did but NO dust…NONE. ZIP. ZILTCH. NADA. It came off like XMT 360. I immediately put my Uber away and stuck with HD CUT for the rest of the detail.
I averaged 3-4 passes (moderate pressure) overall with HD CUT and that got great results. I did spend extra time on the rear quarter where he was swiped in a parking lot. Due to the sun angle I ended up working on those defects in the sun…it was in the low 90’s. HD CUT did an awesome job. Even in direct sun light on a black vehicle the dusting with HD CUT was VERY slight.
I used less compound as the pads warmed and started retaining more product. I went through 8 orange pads on the truck.
There are LOTS of chips and some deep scratches remain but the customer is extremely satisfied with the results! Daily driver outside 24/7/365 and no mud flaps so how long it will stay decent remains to be seen.
Since I had compounded half the truck 2 weeks prior I had to wash it again. I forgot it was Sat and got there too early to start using power tools. So, I played around and took some beading pics, of course.
Pics…ignore the date as Picassa added it from a past detail…
