Iv'e been out of the detail game for quite some time but getting a black car a few months ago helped push me into the big leagues! This car, also known as the Black Mistress, was a dealer demo complete with all the scratches and swirls you would expect to come with a black car left in the hands of clueless lot porters. Got a Flex 3401 last month, along with all the goodies to help me out.

I know i had ALOT to do and I couldn't have done it without the help of everyone here!!! this forum and the products sold at the store clearly show how someone who hasn't held a buffer in 15 years and look like a pro with the results to prove it.

I got about 90% of the scratches out and am very pleased with the results. Took me all of 17 hours but I was working pretty slow, I knew I couldn't rush this and besides, it was my first outing with the Flex 3401.

Any suggestions on improvement, products or otherwise are welcomed, Enjoy the picks

So this is what I used.......

Dawn and a foam gun for the wash
BF PollyClay 2, BF Clay lube
WGTSR on an orange CCS Pad - 3 passes per section at #5.5
WGFG on a gold Jeweling CCS Pad - 4 passes per section at #4
WGDGPS on a red CCS Pad on at #3
845 on a red CCS Pad at #3
Fusion on the gold CCS Pad at #2.5

I also used the WGDGPS on the rims and
WG Exterior Trim Sealant on the wells and lower exterior plastic
WG Black Diamond Tire Gel was used on the tires

Very nice result. Especially on a black finish.

How do you like the Volt, as a car, so far?

amazing would be an understatement! My commute to work is 33 miles and in my 2007 silverado i was spending $250 a month in gas, now i pay $0. Well, I must confess - its $1 to charge it if the batt. is dead. My electric bill went up $30. I can charge it at work for free. My payment at $350/month is half of what the silverado was too. Savin ALOT of money with that car. Pretty weird how fast and quiet that thing is too. :xyxthumbs:

So nice to see a response like that. It was a fun program to work on. It really is a breakthrough technology and strategy that doesn't get the credit it deserves.

BTW, thanks for your purchase and keeping me employed :-).

Its like I'm a salesman with this car! A day doesn't go by that someone doesn't ask me about it. Im so happy with the car, i go on and on about it. Its kinda hard not to with all the technology this thing has in it. I mean ..... what other car sends you text messages??? Ya did good on this one sir! real good!! Now I cant wait for the ELR .....OOO baby!!

Looks good! I gotta say that I love the Volt! I get some crap from some people for liking it and also having a 12 MPG Cutlass with a mild built V8, but I don't care, just love the way these cars look, of course black is the color I would go with as well! If I could snag up a volt for every day driving I would in a heartbeat, you did a great job on it :)

You know, I was all psyched up about this car...but it does make a difference that you can charge yours at work. I also read the article about how having an electric car only really reduces your carbon footprint in specific areas of the country (where the electricity is "greenest"). I would love a Volt but in the end if I were to change vehicles I think it would be a regular hybrid...of course by the time I do that, things might all be different than they are now. I'm sure the flaming is going to start any time now from the people that think efficiency is un-American.

Setec-

How far do you live from where you work, you can get 35-40 miles on a full charge, and after that the car still gets mpg in the upper 30s when running on gas. It's not a cure all and people that live in urban or more densely populated areas do get a bigger benefit from the technology. One of the bigger reasons the 40 mile range was zeroed in on was because there are surveys out there that show 75% of americans live less than 20 miles from their place of employment. If you fall outside that, it may not make sense.

Relying on others to keep you employed with that Hemi? LOL just poking fun of course!

The Volt looks great! Good idea coating the wheel wells!

You don't have to sell me on it, I'm familiar with the vehicle and the design criteria. I'm not buying a new vehicle, so it really doesn't matter. Electrics, EREV's, Plug-in Hybrids...they all have some drawbacks that hurt them for a lot of people. Access to power at night or at work (some people rent and don't have a garage, some people own and don't put their car in the garage, even if they have one). What if you only have one vehicle, drive 10 miles to work, an EV is perfect, right? Except when you have to visit your sister that lives 114 miles away.

In a lot of ways, the infrastructure just isn't there for EV's, even for commuting. In 10 or 15 years there will be a lot of work chargers, public parking chargers, garages wired for 220V chargers...but I just don't see any of that around here now. I'm hoping and presuming that we are going to see a LOT more hybrids in the next few years due to the looming fuel economy regs, and that hybrid tech will just become an expected and invisible part of the driving experience, and that electric commuter cars will be as common as crapbox commuter cars were in 1980.

How dose a 2012 car get into such bad shape that it needs 17 hrs of correction? I'm not even going to get into the electric car debate thats brewing here.

It was a dealer demo car...I had one too:

With the paint so slick and smooth now, you should get a few more miles out of a charge now!:xyxthumbs:
Car looks great!!

That's a new car right ? How it got so many swirl on it already ?

That's what 4,000 miles and a dealerships care and washing will get you....... I NEVER let them even ask to wash it now..... And they know it!

Another thing that people don't realize is how much nuclear power many of the states use nowdays, especially on the west coast, so the "carbon footprint" is much lower than one would think. Even if it's coal power, it's nice to know the money STAYS in the USA! NOT to the middle east.

And for thoes who live or work farther than the 35-50 mile range, the gas engine still gets 40+ miles a gallon so it's the BEST of both worlds!

Very nice correction. How much time did you leave between the WGDGPS & the 845. Then the 845 and the LSP wax?

I keep telling my wife she is the ideal candidate for an EV. Her commute. Is 2 miles each way. The max she drives for work outside the building is an Occaisional 15-20. So her gas bill would be zero. Now we occasionally make trips to see family out of state. One way is 100 miles. Max one way would be 200. With the gas motor is that range available? How far can you run on gas without charging, unlimited? Thanks, Spiney-Dave

Yeah, just gas it up and keep going...except IIRC the tank is 9 gallons and it takes premium.

I let the WGDGPS cure for 12 hours (overnight in the garage) and I just let the 845 set up for a couple hours befor the fusion. Since the 845 is pretty much just a hybrid wax (no pun intended) I really didn't have to wait for a "cure time". I like that for the extra durability in case I dont have time to put the conventional carnuba on and with summer comming, the carnubas dont last too long. Only drawback to the 845 is the "gloss" factor, not a lot, that's where the fuzion comes in.

Sun came out today so this might be a little better , still with the iphone though...
