I have a new 2013 VW Golf in BLACK to detail this weekend. I am doing it mobile instead of at my home so I need to pick what products I should take. I've not done a VW but being its German I am expecting some hard paint. I am doing a polish and Americoat coating on the exterior. I have a full line of Menz polishes and well as Wolfgang, orange, blue, white and black hybrid pads. Any suggestions?

Check our some of lawrence's threads, I'm sure he's done a black one of that vintage at some point. For a one step I think he typically does menz. PF2500 with white or orange hydrids on a flex.

Ohhh, a MK7 Golf R! That's a beauty and a very unique car.

The paint will be very hard. You will need the Menz polishes for sure, but take the standard approach of using the least agressive product possible.

I've found with my '14 VW GTI (same color), that a finishing polish will not cut it if you need to do any real correction at all. You might try a test spot with SF4000, but don't be surprised if you don't end up stepping down to something like PF2500 and then finish off with the 4000 or 4500.

I use Blackfire SRC Compound and Finishing Polish which roughly equate to PG400 and SF4000. For routine, periodic corrections I really need something like 2500 to slot in between the compound and finishing polish.

I've been successful on VW/Audi paint with Wolfgang Uber, FG400, M101, D300, PF2500, and M205.

I used Meg's MF pads, foam cutting and polishing pads from B&S.

Looking forward to your results on this. Such a beautiful vehicle.

FG400 w/ MF cutting pad followed by SF4000 w/ white if its bad, PF2500 on a white pad if it just needs to be cleaned up. good luck, love the Golf R!!

Sorry in advance for the short reply. ... mobile and don't have time at the moment.

If it has very light swirling SF4000 on a white hybrid

Medium swirling pf2500 / white hybrid

Bad swirls FG400 / orange hybrid follow it with SF4000 on black hybrid

Any really hectic damage could be done with blue wool and fg400 followed by sf4000 / black hybrid

Just took a look at that car again. It's a Mk6, not a Mk7, so the paint is exactly like what's on my GTI.

Lawrence is the VW master. His advice is golden.

I could be mistaken, but I think even though it's after 2012, it is still a MK6 Golf R....I believe that 2014 is first year for a MK7 R-variant

I did a white 2013 Golf R a couple weeks ago, responded well to the Rupes UHS system.

The bumpers and hatch were done with FG400 on a white hybrid. It finished down very well, but you may need a quick polishing step to refine it since you are working on black.

You're right. It's a MK6. I corrected my self. The MK7's didn't come out until Spring 2015. I think the actual MK6 R's were last built in '13, but some were still on lots into the '14 model year.
