2014 Corvette Unveiling - 7 pm EST Tonight!

I respect most opinions but REALLY! You've seen the 1963-67 Corvette Sting Ray before, right? Or the 1956-57?

The front looks like the new Viper and the tailights look like a Camaro, first applied to the new Malibu and now the Halo car, horrible! The Corvette should look nothing like any other Chevrolet, period! I don't care how well the Camaro sells either or how many people know it because of a movie. What the hell happened here.....THE FALL OF AN ICON!

You mention mid-years and '56-'57. I consider the '62 to be the most attractive. So it just a matter of personal taste. I don't like the new one much either. I immediately thought Lexus as well. Looks more like a foreign exotic than America's sports car. When I was a kid I was so upset at what happened to the Camaro in '70 1/2 but it wasn't long before I was in my room building Grumpy Bill Jenkins and Jungle Jim Lieberman models. So I'll be patient.

Not meaning to sound grouchy, but what do folks expect? All thoughts of keeping a styling that was distinctively "Made in the USA" died with the likes of Pontiac... After axing them GM is walking a tightrope trying to make the America's buyer happy (remember the reaming the execs got from the Feds during the Bailout? The quote was something like: "get it figured out, GM.. Start building cars that appeal to Americans!"

What cars currently appeal to Americans? Friggin imports! Look through the thread I recently posted "How many cars do you own?" And tell me I am wrong. lol

FishinCricket, I agree with what your sayin' to a point but ofcoarse there was a time where WE set the standards of the world and not the other way around, just wish all the bright people we've got could show what they've got to offer and if the 2014 is the best they can do, well, raise the white flag! They (=hrsler group) axed the Viper a couple years ago and look at what they did, brought it back and gave it a modern look that's still pure Viper! Yes the front end looks like a Ferrari but you'll still know its a Viper. The Corvette on the other hand looks like a Viper coming down the road and going away you see Camaro DNA, shouldn't it be the other way around?! Back in the day there was no DNA from any other car in the Corvette and now look what's happening, very dissapointed!

Once again, we (Americans) like the looks of imports, sure but there's gotta be a way to make it look sharp but decidingly American, look at the 1963-67 Corvette when compared to something European back then, it looked just as good and would make us proud which it did IMO! I'll go as far as say that parked next to a then 8 year old 300 SL Gullwing, the 63 Corvette looked European and American at the same time. In the 60's the Corvette had THREE distictive looks, wake up GM and make us proud once again......PLEASE!

Examples of setting standards in style-

-65 Riviera
-66 Toro
-63 Corvette

I do like the 61-62's also and you got a preview as to what was to come with the rearend treatment of the 61 too. IMO the 58-60 Corvette's we too chrome claded for my tastes, especially the 58, horrible!

To those whom were around and paying attention, what did everyone think of the 68 when it came out? Also, dropping the Sting Ray name, what was said about that?

I was 7 and clearly remember the when the '68 came out. I've always been paying attention. As soon as I could read I was running up to every parked car to check the date on the tail lights so I would know the MY of just about everything on the road. I thought the '68 looked amazing. My uncle got one in black. I got the Hot Wheel in red( corvette bronze).
I agree. the '58 was a bit ostentatious. I love the way they cleaned up the '62. I like the monochromatic cove and color keyed headlight bezels.

I really like the look of the new Vette along with the European inspired styling. Its about time the Vette received an interior worthy of a world class sports car.

The front end looks really good. From the front door to the rear on the side view reminds me of a camaro.

They did an amazing job on the new Bette. I see a bit of Ferrari and the new viper there. Good job GM

I'd like to see if they use better leather in the interior. The leather that gm uses in it's upscale cars (cts-v, escalade, corvette) are crap compared to the leather from other car companies.

They should also have had a dual clutch transmission option. Like it or not, dual clutch transmissions are the current standard for sports cars.

Anyone that wants to buy one should wait for the 3rd year model to come out. I would not want a first or second year new model of any gm car. The c6 vette had a lot of problems initially. A friend of mine was real close to getting his vette lemon law'd. And lets not forget the 22,000 cars that were recalled 4 years ago for a roof that potentially could fly off.

Besides all of that, it's a lot more aggressive looking and looks like a mash up of a ton of other cars. People see influences from the following cars. f458, f12, gtr, and camaro.

The interior reminds me of a former car I owned. The mk IV supra turbo. I just hope for gm's sake that the interior doesn't skimp on the seats and materials.

Would I buy one? No. Corvettes are dime a dozen here and I like my car a whole lot more. Plus it has electric steering, push button parking brake, pushrod engine, runflat tires. Things I like are the interior that envelopes the driver, aluminum chassis, and lots of carbon fiber.

The styling of the car is trying to be all things to all people with all the different cars it looks like. I got home from work last night and watched a video on YouTube from Car and Driver's Csa Csa and it was interesting to say the least. I will say this, the valance panel in the rear painted body color looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the cheap ass black look on the red car, must be an option.....I hope!

I love the comments on the black wheels too, Lambo has them and they look terrible, why go this route. I did see some 5 spoke wheels for the new Vette that look really good in the video. The competition seats look really, really good, finally they wised up and did this, going back to 2003 when the Neon SRT-4 came out it had better seats than the ZO6, a $20k econobox with better seats than an American icon, pathetic!

Even though I don't care for the car, the rear inparticular, I hope they sell everyone single one of them.

I have a 2004 SRT-4 Neon with the Viper inspired seats and I must admit, they are quite nice! They hug your body very tightly and keep you in place.

Exactly and so the question remains, how does a $20k car get those and a what, $60k+ Corvette ZO6 not get something on par? I've heard its because of the size of the average owner and I don't mean height either. If that's even close to being true, weak effort by the Corvette team IMO.

From the pics I think it's a mess. Weird, dis-jointed design that looks like a bad transformers car. It doesn't flow. I agree with other posters that the front is too Viper and the rear is too Camaro. The high black valance looks strange and the black wheels are too much. And the vents are overdone.

But maybe it'll look better in person.

Tel Aviv, Israel.
Cars here = MESS........
In Israel you pay 100% - 120% customs for any kind of car you bring in... add tax... For a 23,000$ Car we pay about 51,900$...
You can bring Corvette to Israel but when the car needs to get fixed no one could fix it, no one got the parts...:nomore:

USA is the BEST... I am an american and I am very Proud to be one! and I really want to go back! ( and I will! )

What an exorbitant customs-rate on vehicles!
(And I thought the "Corvette Tax" was outrageous here in the States)

If I may...
What are the brand-names of vehicles that are available locally to Israelis?

And...
-Don't worry about not currently having a Corvette to drive around...
They'll build you one when you come home to the USA.

As such...
I wish you the best...in that quest.
