I will keep my eyes open for 2015 dates from you :xyxthumbs:

FYI- it's the Sky, not the GXP- but close enough :D

Eh the Sky isn't THAT cool ..... Ok yes it is :D

How about a noob in a Ford Taurus? I've ridden shotgun a time or two with a friend on Deal's Gap. Also, Deal's Gap is about 1 and 1/2 hours away from me.

No problem, I have been on the Dragon more than once in my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500, and once pulling a camper.....

But then I have been all through the Mountains over the years.

And I can say driving in the NC Mountains is no joke.....

Pick up and camper/trailer, hardcore right there!

Yeah have to really gear down a lot and set the electric brakes right I am telling yeah.. :D

A lot of people used to tell me I was crazy driving though the mountains pulling a trailer.

Anyone seriously looking to attend the run with us this year? The place I'm staying at I believe is now booked solid but its always worth a try. The rest of the group going is making a family event out of it and are staying about 40 miles away, so meeting up with them will take some effort. I should also mention there are other places near the Dragon Pitt Inn to stay, thus making it easier for us to meet up.

I know its a little over 7 monthes away but trust me when I say that setting these things up inadvance is key, things always come up, I've been doing this since 2003 and know this. If our immediate group is small it makes for an easier time, large groups are cool but take a lot of planning and some people don't like having a scedule, so you've got that but like the saying goes, can't please everyone, LOL!

Man, I wish I had a nice sports car to do that. That road looks fun. Just watched some YouTube videos that got me curious...so there aren't ever cops giving people tickets on that road?

No need for a sports car, in my 10 yrs of going down there I've taken a Honda Fit sport w/ autotragic and still enjoyed the trip, although I did upgrade to a perf all-season tire (Continental DWS)

Cops are always on the Dragon on Sat and Sun but during the week, no problems for the most part, never an issue on the Cherahola Skyway w/ cops.

Keep the questions coming, if I turn one person onto this trip I've suceeded!

I just re-read this and to avoid any confusion the Fit was NOT the only car I took down there but rather the only one with an autotragic. The Fit is a "swiss army knife" of cars, nothing special on the surface but was a good handling car and didn't weigh a lot either, that is the key feature down there, tossability! In order I've taken the following cars down there:

-2003/04...Contour SVT (2000)
-2005/06...Crossfire Limited (2005)
-2007/09...Mini Cooper S (2007)
-2010...Fit sport (2010)
-2011/13...CR-Z (2011)

-2014...Fiat 500 Abarth (2014....) Oct 8th-12th 2014

Awwwww that sucks.
I really wish I could, but can't do it this year.

Its ok Monica, I know you and your husband can't make it this year and its not like I'm going alone, our group will be down there. Its kinda hard to get a room at where we're staying now anyways but there are other places to stay though plus there could be a cancellation as things happen. In my years of being on various car forums this would be the first one where I wasn't able to get someone to come out, time will tell.
