Detail Season is underway and it includes interiors too! Earlier in February, I had a 2019 Dodge Durango that my friend and previous customer sent my way. The owners have just under 60k on the odometer and with a handful of kids in the family, there was some work to do.
Goal here was my Elite Interior which included a full Steam Extraction of the carpet and fabrics then cleaning and dressing of all leather and plastics. Gone is the pet hair, winter salt, crusty floor mats, loads of sand from a beach vacation and several spills and in with a Like-New appearance with that factory fresh satin look.
Many thanks to Phil for his trust in my work to recommend a friend and neighbor my way. Perhaps after this they will have me tackle the exterior too.
The process is pretty straightforward. Remove whatever contents the owner leaves and put them in a box. Next used compressed air and an air gun in the driveway to BLOW all that I can out of the vehicle. I spend about 15 minutes doing this to help make short-order of all the gravel and bigger stuff like fries and popcorn, etc.
Next up I use the Tornador Velocity Vac show below. IMO, it's a MUST have for interiors. Nothing makes for cleaner extractions than removing as much of the muck before water is added to the mix. It also has a spray bottle which I use to apply the pre-treatment upholstery cleaner and/or their enzyme product. Next up I extract the carpets. This allows for maximum time to dry and also, when done I go back over the carpet edges and tough spots with the Tornador Black to help clean edges, seams, etc, and doing so will often cause a bit of splatter thus why I leave the trim to the next step.
Next up where needed I'll use a steamer but often just a good scrub mitt and a mild solution of interior cleaner and water is all that's needed. Trim is dressed with a combination of a microfiber applicator and wipe off and a HVLP Paint gun for super light and even application. Of course, when using either a gun or the Tornador, do wear a proper N-95 mask as you're atomizing products that can be dangerous to inhale.
Lastly, windows are cleaned inside and out and there I use Meg's concentrate with distilled water. 10:1 is perfect as their instructions note and it's super cost-effective.
hope some of this information helps, happy to answer any questions or cover more detail where needed.
