2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris Transit Van
Pocket Blue (single stage!)
3,000 miles

This is kind of out of left field for vehicles that I typically do! Client just picked this up for hauling stuff around/his business and wanted it coated. It was full of swirls, scratches, marring, and water spots. During my test spot, I found out that the paint was single stage! Surprise surprise! She cleaned up pretty well and there were acres of paint that needed correction and coating!

The ‘details’:

Waterless wash with McKee’s37 N914.
Adam’s wheel and tire cleaner.
Adam’s wheel cleaner.
Medium clay mitt.
DeFelsko PTG.
Scangrip and GYEON lighting.
Flex 3401, The Beast!
Foam cutting and polishing pads.
Misc. MF towels.
Adam’s surface prep.
Adam’s Graphene ceramic coating.
GYEON tire dressing.
Auto finesse glass cleaner.

Thanks for looking!

Looks great, Scott. What product did you use to polish? I didn't see it in the write-up

Looks like new !

But you left out the 0-60 time ... :bolt:

Man nice work Scott! Don't you enjoy working on single stage sometimes?
its a nice change of paste for me once in awhile.

Looks great! Big difference. Pun intended as that's a big vehicle. Interesting they use a single stage paint.

Thanks all!!! LOL @ the 0-60 time comments! LOL

Sorry, forgot to put that in!! I used M205 and then Adam's polish for the polishing stage.

I do. I like working on SS paint!

Scott is awesome
Wow even a new car is full of swirls, crazy.
Quick questions for you,
what is the recommended minimum gauge reading to stop at?
Another member had told me, I forgot.

What is a single stage paint?

LOL Paulie!

TJ: Thank you! Yes, even new vehicles have defects/issues. As far as paint readings go, I don't like seeing readings in the low 2's to mid to high 1's---getting thin!

Single stage paint has no clear coat on it. It's just, well, paint. (that's why you see the paint transfer onto the pads/towels when working with it)

Hope this helps!

Scott,

Another stupid question, regarding the PTG.

Will the PTG, read correctly if the clear coat is dirty, hot, cold, etc?

I find it’s usually the small things that make a difference 🤷🏻#♂️

You did an awesome job with it!! I'll bet You slept well that night!

^^J I did! LOL. Thank you!

Jesus: Those factors will not affect your readings. (as long as the paint is not filthy/muddy/trashed) I always take readings on a clean surface...
