3 1/2" backing plate on Griot's 6" RO?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't use 4" pads with a CG 3 1/2" backing plate on my GG 6" RO 3rd gen.. I apologize if this is a silly question, I'm new (but very excited) to detailing. It just seems odd to have two different machines if you can swap out backing plates. Thanks. Take care.

You could go one step further and use a 3" BP with LC Hydro Tech Pads.
