3 coating comparison

Outside 24x7 or garaged? What kind of weather?

I guess those are important data points aren't they! Should have mentioned that.

All three cars are driven daily. One of the two 12-month cars sits outside 24x7. The other 12-month car is garaged occasionally, but only at night. It swaps out with the 7-month car which is also garaged at night only on an occasional basis. All of them are exposed to the elements for at least 14 hours a day...often longer. They are washed by hand every three weeks when work and weather permit.

Climate is typical mid-west USA. We get hot temps (we hit 109*F this summer) with lots of sun and high humidity in the Summer. Decent amounts of rain, sometimes torrential, in the Spring and Fall. Winter sees freezing temps, rain, freezing rain, ice, snow, and roads covered in salt/sand. The cars stay rather dirty during the winter because it's too cold to bucket wash. They best they can hope for is a run through the touchless car wash when temps get above the freezing point.

Interesting. One more question: did you do one coat or more?

I also put these coatings at a disadvantage by applying them in the winter. They went out in perpetual cold and rain after a couple of days curing. Probably not ideal. Could be they would have better durability being applied in summer with several weeks in the sun to finish doing whatever they do over time.

I applied one coat. The only LSP I've every layered was Klasse SG and I only saw marginal improvements in appearance or durability. Even then, I only did it one or two times.

The first two vehicles were applied in October when temps were around 70~75. The third vehicle was in April-ish also in temperatures in the mid-70's.

Personally, I try not to mess with polishes or LSP's below 60 or above 80~85. The products just don't seem to behave as designed and are difficult to work with outside those bounds.

Agreed on temps. Note that I applied them in my garage with a heater and gave them a couple of days to cure. Initial application was fine. Have read that that coatings continue to cure for 3-4 weeks. Not sure how well that happened being out in the rain.

Looking forward to the continued updates. I'm sold on McKee's for the cost/performance of it so far. I've put it on over a dozen different customer cars so far with everyone being more than pleased and happy with the performance of it.

I've began to use CarPro Essence as my base/polish prior to application. In many other cases I've used HD Adapt or Meg's Ultimate Polish as the base.
any chance you want to tell me what you charge for the mckees coating and what you include for the price? If not I understand. PM if you want
