3401 and wool

Forget about using any pure wool pads on the 3401. Wool pads are for rotary use only with the exception of the Tuf Buf Pads. Purple foam wool pads work well with the 3401.

Well still not sure why someone would try and use a Rotary Wool pad on a DA. So :dunno:

^ But I guess I agree as well :D

so if you have a flex 3401 which pad do you think is the best for 4 3/8 back plate ?

the tuf buff black wool pad in 5" with 3/4" or 1"

or

LC Foamed Wool 5.5 x 1 Thick Polishing / Buffing Pad

Tuff buff 5" in 3/4" or 1"(doesn't matter). I like 3/4" better.

Wool with a 3401 is all about technique and product. Yes, it can work awesome.

There isn't much technique involved with the 3401 other than keeping the pad flat. Can you explain what technique you're talking about?

Have you had a negative experience with a wool pad on a 3401? I am curious to hear why you would blatantly tell someone to not use wool on a 3401. I have had nothing but positive results and I've used several different types of wool pads on that machine.

Agreed.

I don't know what technique he is using, but I can tell you I have used wool pads in the same fashion (with the exception of applying more polish on wool) as foam pads and have had amazing results. It's a must have on harder paints or paint with deeper defects. Big time saver.

I find that a mf pad works much better on a 3401. Have you compared the two? If it works for you, stick with it. If you feel it's a "big time saver" you should try wool on a rotary.

First time I've used Wool on 3401 was not very nice (looks like machine was 'hoping'), but I didn't gave up...

I've tried to tweak polish usage and managed to get smooth buffing of it. I use mainly the 'Smack's Technique' for 3401 and Menzerna, which (on part) consists (basically) of priming the pad with a slight mist of detailing spray and using less product (not thoroughly priming the pad) since from the start.

I've got nothing but really fast defects vanishment. It also goes so smooth it's an enjoyable experience.

Keep in mind that I've 'born in detailing' using MF pads and I've got a lot of fast correction with them (still have, like and use them often with 3401 as well).

However, if I had to pick one, Wool over MF anytime for heavy correction / hard paint with the 3401.

Paired with FG400, I was able to finish out almost LSP ready with it.

My favorite wool pad is the LC Hybrid wool.

It 'lints' a bit from the start, but if you brush it before it's first use, it'll be not an issue - I do the same with MF before 1st ever use.

After the first use (pad 'breaks in'), no more lint issue, no mess, just clear of defects results.

That said, my experience (not that huge, indeed) with wool and 3401 are very positive and recommended to anyone.

Kind Regards.

I just got a couple of hd's Turkish lambswool pads and they are very nice. I swear they are the same as the tuf buf. Things are going to cut like crazy I know it!
