48% dont wax their cars

I would have thought the percentage was much higher than that. The piece does give pretty good advice though.

i have to disagree with the hot water remark. in the winter i use hot water cause common sense if i use cold my hands, the ground, and the car itself is going to freeze. thats a must do when at least hosing off salt/sand.

and i think people dont wax their cars because they dont realize that old wax has to be removed before applying new wax cause if you keep applying coat after coat of wax, it's going to buildup and eventually fade the surface. (i learned that from automotive great, chip foose!)

What can I say?? I was one of those that did not wax nor take care of my vehicles...but now, I can't stop thinking about it! :D

i think it will be less, the number comes from turtle wax. if they say 10% wax their car, then people would think that they do not need to wax their cars.

also some people consider the tunnel wash with wax option is a good wax that last too.

I always observe the beading on every car here. I seldom, very seldom, see a car that has beads on it. Other than mine of course.

I believe it is higher, I mean waxing your car the right way not just applying wax on top of an old layer of wax.

I think that very few people wax there cars Im not talking about the once a year waxers. I work for a Toyota dealership, and the cars I see if older then 4 years old, maybe 4 out of 1 hundred will get waxed regularly. I dont see many people that vacuum there cars.Ive seen cars that are a year old with 15000 miles on them and there pig styes. Its ashame.

People don't like to wash their cars, not only that Auto Bell the local car wash chain makes boqu amounts of cash on weekends.

So yeah people only wash and wax their cars probably MOST in the USA just for that nostalgia feel when their parents or someone in their family did it way back then.

Thanks for the link. I'm suprised it's as high as it is too.

I look at the water beading on cars when it rains too. It rained today and a coworker and I looked at all the windshields to see who had "appropriated" Aquapel and put it on their windshields. Busted!

I think one of the reasons some people don't wax their cars is some of them live by us and see the production we make out of cleaning our cars.

For example:

two buckets for washing
separate microfibers for everything
clay bars
rotary polisher
da polisher
4", 5" and 6" pads
wheel cleaners
the list goes on and on

Put yourself in their shoes. It's a wonder we don't induce panic attacks.

I disagree with the above statement you don't have to remove old wax before applying new wax...

Wonder how much of that group is thinking they waxed the car when they paid the extra dollar for it in the carwash?

I have an confession to make...........

Yes I am an AGer and I don't wax my cars either. I work 2 jobs PLUS I Run a part time mobile detail business waxing everybody elses cars. I simply don't have the time plus I honestly am not picky about cars that are driven daily. Now i love a classic or a hot rod with perfect paint that is worth the time IMO. But I don't see the point in wasting my time on a car that I put 15000 miles a year on that will be scrap steel in 10 years just about the time that the paint starts to fade.

When I was younger I was so anal about my cars that I didn't enjoy them because I was worried about dents, scratches, tree sap, spills, stains, dirty shoes, parking...etc. I kept my cars MINT, and what did I do with thoes mint cars? I traded them in and got nothing extra for the hours and hours I spent waxing and caring for them. Of coarse if the car is trashed it will affect the value, but if it is in decent shape you will get a certain amount for it and that is it.

Now when I goto a car show and see a sweet ride (camaro, mustang, ferrari...etc) with perfect paint that is worth my time, not my toyota
RAV-4. I guess as I got older my priorties changed and that toyota is really not that big of an investment like it used to be and it really is just a car.

While I am at it I also need to confess something else, now please don't shoot me......LOL but I run my cars through the automatic car wash. All the time. I actually have the unlimited plan so I go often, I do however ask the guys/gal at the end to not towel dry my car to help prevent micro scratches(I touch it up when I get home). And you know what, my paint is in good shape!

Whoa!

Here there are more like 90% who dont wax their car!
and 88% of them think that the "teflon" the dealership applied during delivery is still holding up after 5-10 years!

There are a mere 1-2% of us who actually know and understand the fact that paint is softer than a baby's skin and needs to be taken care of properly!

I think it's easily more than 48% of people not waxing their car. As some have said, a lot of those people who said they waxed their car probablly count the $1 carwash wax as waxing their car.

As for the claim that a properly maintained car can be worth 50% more at trade in time than a car in "fair" condition... BS! There is no way that a car in good condition is going to be worth $30,000 vs a car in fair condition being worth $20,000... same goes for $10,000 vs $15,000...

That's a big difference- I would guess $1000-$3000 at most.

Hey Matt that's nothing a quick coat of glaze can't take care or right??!!?? LOL. I wish I find a neglected car for half the value of a mint one I would buy it in a heartbeat!

exactly hahaha... who needs a real job if you could just buy a car, glaze it and make 50% more on resale.
