Hey guys,

I worked on this car using the method Mike wrote about with clay bar and Meguiars #7. In the picture you will see the hood after clay bar and in the picture below you will the hood after three runs of #7 and one coat of #26. Not bad for 53 year old paint. Should I go over the 26 with some Ultimate Paste Wax? What do you think?

No, I don't think piling more wax on will help any. Did you polish it at all?

Not bad at all!

If you ever get the chance to restore another single stage paint then try to take the before picture BEFORE anything to capture the fullest extent of the ugly.

I wouldn't myself. I don't think you'll gain any more shine, depth, gloss, etc.

Couldn't hurt to try a test section and then compare the results of the M26 as compared to the M26 topped with UPW.

I have an article on this topic,

Topping - Definition - How to Top also called Topping

Now how about a picture or two of the entire car?

Here she is - rolled out of the garage today. Has some rust spots here and there but I kinda like her that way. Although the coating of #26 seems pretty thin.

Looks great!

Need more pics!! She sure looks great! I sure to love some vintage Oldsmobiles!

Def like the lil Y body Olds
Does it have the buick/rover extra head bolted olds 215 v8 in it

Here she is from the Blue/Gray OCA chapter meet up in Hershey last weekend. Came out pretty nice.

Yes, the soak method must be the whole factor in the m7 results
Working it and leaving on for a 1hr works but still nothing compared to polish and a yellow pad.
I need to borrow a garage for the 24 hr soak otherwis ill have a bunch of field sand dust on my car/wax
