The paint was in excellent condition, well maintained with very few swirls, if any. The owner was very meticulous with taking care of this car. He never washed the car with water.

I was not able to create a 50/50 example of a before and after a polishing session.

Even during claying---there was very little dirt, if any on the clay. It actually pulled more dirt out of my hand than the paint!

This reminds me of the 69 Camaro which was a lacquer base coat and clear coat. Since it was a repaint many years ago (25 years)---this may be possible.

This paint was very hard. Decided to clean and smooth the paint using Speed and protected with McKee's High Def Sealant. Left it on for more than 24 hours before removing. This created a smoother, buttery feel and look to the surface.

  1. Wash wheels with soap/water and the old tire dressing was removed with Tuff shine.
  2. Vinyl top was vacuumed and washed using rinse less wash.
  3. Vinyl top was cleaned and protected using Marine 31 vinyl cleaner and protectant. ( was all I had on hand---run with what you have.)
  4. Washed the car using the rinse less method using McKee's N-914.
  5. Clayed the car.
  6. Polished the paint using HD Speed with Rupes yellow pad. (sweet results!
  7. Applied McKee's High Def Sealant for 6 months protection.
  8. Mother's Chrome polish used on all brightwork.
  9. Exhaust tips cleaned with mothers polish.
  10. Exterior Glass cleaned.

    On to the pictures

HiDef on top of Speed? that must have been some slick paint on that car when you were done

Very, very slick and very, very buttery!!

Beautiful look, very thick and slick. Pictures doesn't do justice. I was really happy with results!

Tom The HD Speed has wax. Did that cause
any problem with the HiDef.

Thanks

Not at all. High def and speed worked together just fine.

Haven't found any high def on the ground...Lol...

Beautiful work! Love the Chevelle especially being a manual transmission!

Nice job- labor of love

I still say they should have shot the idiot who came up with those roofs

Wheels are nice but are wrong for that year

Holy Good Lord, Tommy!!

Incredible work. Beautiful!! :dblthumb2:

Do you know or think that Pinnacle’s
jeweling wax would work with Wolfgang
deep gloss sealant 3.0?

Thanks

I am not familiar with the products outlined in your post but the concept is the probably the same with what I did.

The rationale behind me doing HD Speed was that speed really puts out ton of gloss with minimal correction AND it made the surface very smooth and slick.

I wanted to add longer protection than what speed was capable of doing, so decided to top off with McKee's high def sealant.

In hindsight--could have simply done a fine polish and then topped off with high def sealant. Felt speed created a tad more gloss.

In your case, best just to do a small section and see what happens. It wouldn't hurt anything...

I have a '70 chevelle coming in a week or so. I was wondering if you removed the emblems. I'm going to ask the customer about it but since I've never removed them I have no idea how hard it is. I recall the cowl induction emblem on the hood being particularly dirty behind it. Anyone have any insight on removal and replacement?

Wow!

Drop dead gorgeous!
