8-Track Turntable ???

When I was looking for pictures on my old computer for a project I found this picture I took in Big Bear, California a couple of years ago, I've never seen anything like it before thus took the picture.

It was playing and for sale, forget the price... it was unique enough that I took the picture so I though others might get a kick out of it...

Weird...

:D

That is an interesting find Mike and I'll bet it plays allot of oldies!!!

Funny stuff there Mike .

Talk about poor design - 8 track tapes had to cross themselves when playing (or rewinding, etc.).

Last night I attended a car show of sorts here. A '71 Cuda (remember Plum Crazy?) had a 8 track player in the dash. It appeared to be OEM but I couldn't get a good look at it w/o crawling into the car and I know better than to touch another man's (or woman's) car :bat:.

So what are the 8-tracks? Tony Orlando & Dawn? Best of Abba?
I'm amazed at the impracticality of this device. Sort of like a steam-powered Flex.

Gawd, I remember 8 tracks.... the hissing was sooo annoying!

Mike that is a great picture.
I have been into home audio for many years and have never seen anything quite like this.

Haha, that's awesome! I got a strong feeling that thing was WAY ahead of it's time.

Turn that thing on,I'm about to throw on a pair of good ole double-knit polyester bell bottoms, hope you have that Saturday Night sound track.lol Its amazing how technology has changed

Mike, you're showing your age!! Keep that up and we'll dig up pics of you cranking the Victrola!!

Mike,

In your collection of pictures of 'neatstuff'...do you have a shot of the 'in-car' 45rpm record players from the late 50's (early 60's)? That would be a real eye opener to some...LOL.

Those of us in the "baby boomer" generation have probably seen more variations of personal music delivery than any generation past or future. Think about what we've experienced in the past 40-50 years: Vinyl records, 4 and 8 track continuous tapes, cassette tapes, CD's and currently, digital internet downloads to miniature portable devices that can be broadcast through your car's audio system or transported in a pocket.
What will they think of next ?

I see where 'vinyl' is again the hot setup for the 'true' audiophiles.

But more to your point, what WILL be next? Mind boggling ain't it?

All of my 8 tracks needed a book of matches stuck under them to get it to play right.

With that many at one time, it'd be a real fire hazard.

BTW, my wife (who never throws ANYTHING away because it might be useful one day), still has her AM/FM/8track player that's shaped like an egg and suction cups to the table.

Think I'll go pull my BeeGee's 8 tracks out and disco 'round the room.

Stayin' Alive

Those of us with limited funds who frequented the roadside "bootleg" tape stands learned to buy a player that had an external head adjustment knob.

We were poor - we didn't even have a road, so there were no roadside stands.

Mike,

You should have bought that. Something that unique will likely carry some value someday. At least to a museum or some electronics buff.

I don't have a picture I've taken of a recored player in a car but my friend Ben aka bencar on MOL owns a car with a record player in it and he shared the below picture and gave me permission to share it in this thread with the appropriate recognitions...

My 1960 Plymouth's 45 rpm RCA Record Player

If this works as planned, there should be an attached picture along with this post, of an image of the 45 RPM Record Player I have in my 1960 Plymouth Savoy.

The Record Player was a Factory Authorized option for my Plymouth in 1960

I did take these pictures from one of the 2 times that I worked on the auction block at Barrett-Jackson in Arizona.

Notice how these pictures are obviously taken from being on the auction block, during this time I actually didn't have the right credentials to be on the auction block but no called me on it, I just acted like I was supposed to be there to take pictures of cars but actually I was taking pictures of all the swirled-out cars. :D

1959 Cadillac with an in-dash Television!
(Car was listed as a 1959 but obviously has the tail fins of a 1960, I know, I've owned both 1959 and 1960 Cadillacs)

Is that cool or what? An in-dash Television!

So there you go... a double whammy... a record player in a car and a TV in a car...

:xyxthumbs:

OUTSTANDING!

What's next, a telephone in the car...LOL?

Thanx Mike.

That made me laugh out loud!!! I had never seen an 8 track turntable before. That takes me back to the 70's where my Dad had a suitcase full of nothing but Beatles 8 track tapes. I guess that's why I still love to listen to the Beatles to this day.
