A Chicagoland get together?

Do you think Autogeek will or can send some supplies to play with at the Chicagoland meet. That would be nice.

ill bring my big rotary and 9" wool pad and show everyone how it's done... Who wants to volunteer their car first? :dblthumb2:
 
I'm going to be bringing my bags too, I've got the 3" and 6" GG RO's, along with an assortment of towels and products, a little bit of everything, so I'm covered with whatever panel I get to do, well that is unless it really needs a buffer, then in that case I don't have the right tool for the job.....but I really wanna learn how to properly use a buffer, its only a matter of time till I get one to add to my "weapons of mass reflection!"
 
I have a bunch of items I would be willing to bring also. DA, many LC Flat Pads, waxes, sealants, microfibers (both drying and rolled edges) etc etc. I'll bring whatever. Figure this is a good way for people to try products they haven't tried yet.

I'm also about 90% sure I can get a donor car to work on. It could be a 2010 GMC Terrain in black or a 98 Chevy Malibu (in green) which needs a lot of work (it does have some rust thou), maybe a Pontiac G6 black also. Heck maybe I go get my boss's black BMW, which needs correction work also. Also an 08' Dodge Avenger on there too.

Do any of these options for cars work?

Personally I don't care which car we do, I just hope its one we can learn off of as well as someone who really deserves it, maybe our host (when he comes back in here) can determine which car for us to work on, heck, he might even have one in mind for us.

I'm thinking everyone attending will have used the rinseless wash by now but if there is someone who hasn't, well, I'd be more than happy to bring a sample size of it, as well as my buckets and do a little side demo myself, I'm no expert or rep for a brand but I'm pretty passionate about what these products can really do, a real EYE OPENER IMO! Just throwing out something else we can do, surely our local members aren't going to bring their personal rides to something like this all dirty........would you?
 
LOL, Klasse Act I don't think any members will be riding to this show with dirty cars. All the cars I listed are either family, close friend, or my boss who is awesome too lol. I know they need work and could be used for people to learn on. Because I'm sure as you stated most of our personal cars will be swirl free and very clean :)

I was just making it known that I can being a car that people could work on, thats all.

If our host gets one. I'm all up for making that one shine too!! :)
 
^^ I know what you were saying and suggesting, its all good and yeah, our cars will be looking good for sure but you never know, a noob to the site could show up. I really wanna show a doubter of rinseless wash what they can do, I'm still blown away with them and have been using them since about February of this year, one of the greatest products ever! I really like being able to wash my car when the sun is shinning down, one panel at a time and because of this, no time for it dry up and its such a controlled way of washing your car, honestly can't say when was the last time I hand washed my car the "old" way, LOL!

I hear you on the rinseless wash man! I have moved mostly (for personal use, so far) to about 80% of the time to rinseless wash, the other 20% is the old hose method wash.

Rinseless was is a life-saver to us up here during our nasty chicago winters.Im the MAN

I'm looking foward to this no matter what or who(s) car(s) we detail!
 
The rinseless wash does seem to leave a residue on the paint when its around 40 degrees though, its something I've noticed from when I started using it this past winter. The one time I used ONR this past late winter, the car was REALLY bad and what I did was spray the entire car with the QD mix of ONR to break up some of the salt/dirt and that made things alot easier. The rinseless wash really saves you so much money, especially when you buy by the gallon which is all I'll ever buy! It comes down to this with rinseless, "you either have it or you need it!"

The hose method does come into play when you drive in the rain and wanna get into the wheelwells, clean insde the wheels real good as well as get into all the cracks and crevices real good. I usually take the MF I use to dry the wheels when I'm done, dunk it in the ONR bucket, wring it out real good and wipe down the jams in the doors and hatch area, as well as under the hood while I'm at it too.

This is a great subject for the meet. I think that just about every community has, or will have, water restrictions because of the drought. A great way to learn how to be more eco-friendly.

Of course if I can make it I'll bring all my goodies. I might even leave the car a bit dirty so others can take a crack at it!

Hmmm, if anybody wants to show off their scratch/chip repair skills, my car still has some spots that could use the touchup.
 
HOLY CRAP!! How'd I miss this thread. With the wife working weekends and me having the boys it's hard for me to get away for long periods of times but I'll try to make it. However, if none of the above locations pan out, Klasse, you know I have a driveway that can accommodate probably 7 cars (if parked right), my garage may only be a one car, but there's enough room to move around and work. Anyone is welcome at our place any time. Also the people across the street just moved, so if that place isn't rented prior to this meet I can perhaps talk to the landlord and use that garage space and driveway also.

Dave, welcome to the thread! With the size of the group, it looks like an actual shop with a large parking lot is going to be needed, but I hope you show up to this though. As far as your driveway goes, well, maybe we can set up a CEG meet at your place and do a paint correction at your place, do you have a buffer or a RO like me?

Ok guys good news! We can definitely use my shop space in Hoffman Estates.

I/we'd like to keep it to around 20 people so it doesn't get too crowded. As was stated before, this won't be any big event or anything like that in terms of my business, LUSTR Auto Detail, or Underground Autosports, rather a bunch of local enthusiasts getting together to exchange some ideas about detailing and get to know each other. There will be plenty of space for people to park outside (there's a back parking lot with 5-10 spots, but we're in a plaza so there's plenty of parking in front) and we can work on 1-3 cars inside.

Now all that's left to figure out is an actual date/time as well as a game plan for the day. As I said before, it'll have to be a Sunday and as of today it looks like it has to be sometime in September. I am pretty much open any Sunday in Sept except 9/16 as I'll be out partying for my wife's birthday the night before :).

As for the game plan, I guess we can do what was already talked about... working on 1-2 donor cars where everyone present gets to try out something different. For some it may be trying out a new polish/polisher and others just a wash or wax, but everyone can learn from the experience. We can figure out all the details later so whoever has any input please feel free to share. Since Connor and Roger took the initiative here I'd like to see what they think so we can get the ball rolling.

Lastly, I'm thinking whoever helps organize this (again, thinking Connor, Roger and I too will obviously help out) can collect a small fee from people who plan to attend. This would be for some food/drinks to be ordered on the day of the meet. Also, if the consensus is to order some products or use a bunch of mine we can increase the fee and go from there.

Ivan, that's very kind of you to offer to use your shop for this. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to have a raffle or some kind of giveaway that involves detailing products? I'd definitely be down to bring some good stuff as donations for it.
 
I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for this. I think it's just a great idea to get together and learn from each other. If this one goes well I hope we can continue to do more for those who couldn't make it for whatever reason.

I think September is a good time for this. Hopefully it will cool off by then.
My input is that we do the food/drinks as a pot luck. Everybody commits to bring something. I think that we have more than enough time to plan it that way.
