A Chicagoland get together?

Ivan, that's very kind of you to offer to use your shop for this. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to have a raffle or some kind of giveaway that involves detailing products? I'd definitely be down to bring some good stuff as donations for it.

I can't speak for IL law, but in WI setting up a raffle is no small feat as it is considered a form of gambling (lottery) that requires a few different certifications and fees. It is something that could be looked into though. The biggest issue I see is disbursing the proceeds among private party members, which I'm not sure is allowed.

As far as scheduling goes, the only Sunday in September that I am busy for is the 2nd.

I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for this. I think it's just a great idea to get together and learn from each other. If this one goes well I hope we can continue to do more for those who couldn't make it for whatever reason.

I think we can definitely do a few yearly, even if it's at another location. I'm sure we'll figure it out as the time comes.

Yes, thanks Ivan!!
I think September is a good time for this. Hopefully it will cool off by then.
My input is that we do the food/drinks as a pot luck. Everybody commits to bring something. I think that we have more than enough time to plan it that way.

That could definitely work but we can leave it to a vote from those coming. I've had experience with both and there are pros and cons for each, so it doesn't really matter if planned well.

Yeah I don't know the laws/rules on the raffles here so if you guys want to do so, someone will have to look into it.

As for the date, I'm thinking once we have a set amount of people, which I think should be 22-25 registered, we can start a new thread as a vote so we can determine what works best for most of us.

Paul that definitely works. I'm thinking since we're close to our 20ish members signed up, we should start thinking of a date. I guess best way to start is with my availability at the shop, so I'll list the dates first, both for September and October.

9/2
9/9
9/23
9/30 (maybe, as I might have to go out of town)
10/7
10/14
10/21
10/28

Instead of making a new thread with the dates, I'm thinking it will work for everyone to simply do as we did when signing up with the list, but add 3 dates after your name, in order that best works for you. I'll start...

1. Roger (Klasse Act)
2. Connor (CH.Detailing)
3. Chris (2011Mustang5.0)
4. John (MadMerc)
5. RChicago (Thomas Quinn)
6. Chris (DealerDetailer)
7. Larry A
8. Bagua
9. Larry (Lstotland)

Any Sunday works for me, if needed I can even bring my metro master blaster.
But as a warning I'm a noob at this still. Just putting it out there. :)

Guys, please just copy the post before you and paste the list, then add the dates to your name. Even if all the dates work for you, list 3 of them so it's easier for us to count and figure out which works out the best.

Dave, welcome to the thread! With the size of the group, it looks like an actual shop with a large parking lot is going to be needed,

Best of luck for the GTG, I've organized half a dozen Roadshow Classes for Meguiar's that were all hugely popular but the thing no one ever sees is all the planning and work that goes on months ahead of time to pull off a successful event.

As soon as you get to more than a dozen people you need,

  • Good parking for the cars.
  • Bathrooms for everyone attending, including women.
  • Some plan for food in the morning and afternoon.
  • Lots of microfiber towels.
  • Chemicals.
  • Tools.
  • Buffing pads.
  • Extension cords.
  • A lot more than I'm going to list but it's more complicated than most people think.

Wishing everyone success with this GTG...

Thanks for the advice Mike:props:

This is why I posted about bringing your own products and tools, so hopefully people remember to do this but if not, I'm sure there's going to be enough people who will, I'll be bringing both of my bags for sure. As far as using your own products on the test car, well look at it like this, with doing a section of the car yourself, its not like your going to be using all that much product anyways. The test car will come out looking good but will surely have various products used on it, which is kinda funny IMO but would also give us some "real world" input too as far as shine, durability, etc.

As far as food goes, well to make it easy, make sure you have cash to throw into the kitty, $5's and singles are key here and I'm sure we'll have our share of pizza places to chose from, it is Chicago afterall:hungry:

All we've gotta do know is keep it going and wait for our potential host to come in and let us know when a good time is for the activities to go down.

Oh yeah, I just thought of something else that would be kinda cool for those attending. Surely we've all got products of some kinda that we don't use too much anymore and may be taking up some room, so what do you guys think about everyone bringing one product to put on a table and we draw numbers out a hat and then take a product home with us?

If everybody wants, I can make and bring a 5 gallon bucket of italian ice. Give me a flavor, I make lemon, black rasberry, blue rasberry, mango, watermelon, strawberry, cantalope

That would be great, too many choices for a group our size so I'd say this, whatever you like, make it and you can apply this old addage...."build it and they will come!"

I will make something just waiting for the date. I have made the ice for years and still do at a restaurant a few times a week in Bensenville and I will be there today at 5.
