A legitimate question!

Please inform me how long you have been in this business?

FWIW I use both rotary and da

I don't detail as a professional, I detail as a hobbyist. Been doing it seriously for about a year and a half. Have I used a rotary? Only one time. Chris at Integrity Detail let me use one on my hood once with a finishing pad and Poli-Seal. Definitely different from my G110v2, I'll tell you that! But I see no need to use one on a regular basis. There are plenty of guys on here and other forums who get beautiful finishes using just a DA. I just fail to see how you can honestly say that somebody who uses a rotary or a foam cannon is in every way, shape, and form better than somebody who uses a DA and a foam gun. You're gonna have to explain that one to me, because I'm lost on that one. :dunno:

This was from my first time polishing. I used my G110v2, a Meguiar's 7 inch yellow polishing pad with M105, a Lake Country 6.5 inch gray CCS pad with Menzerna PO85rd, WG DGPS, and Fuzion, and got this on my 15 year old daily driver that has never been polished:

This was from my third time polishing, I didn't take any pics of the second job:

Again, I used only my DA with Lake Country pads and Ultimate Compound. You can view the writeups for both cars here:

Didn't use a rotary or foam cannon to accomplish any of it. :buffing:

If you feel that I have a bone to pick with you, I apologize, because I don't. I just don't appreciate having my intelligence insulted. Rant over.

Now I am going to push away from the keyboard for the time before I say something I'll regret. My apologies. :grouphug:

I don't see any reason at all for anyone to call someone else out on the tools they use.

For me, the right tool for the right job... If i need a pressure washer, ill use it. If a DA can polish paint to my satisfaction, I park the rotary. To each their own, simple as that.

CieraSL - That is some fantastic work on the Olds :xyxthumbs:

1. No personal attacks toward members or non-members will be tolerated.

2. No arguing with Moderators or Administrators.

3. You are welcome to disagree but you must be polite.

4. No bashing any company or their products. No bashing other people. IMHO nothing beats the pressure washer for getting all the polish dust out of the crevices, cracks. Saves time when I'm doing an all day detail as water pressure at my house isn't that great. For normal washes, I don't bother as my garage sucks and only has one outlet, so it's a pain to setup. Once I fix that, I'll probably use it more often, but 90% of the time the hose is enough.

In our shop I installed a live reel to the pressure washer right by the door entrance. We park the cars in front of the door to wash before pulling them in the shop. With this setup all I have to do is hook the garden hose that is on a spool to the pressure washer and I'm ready to go. It takes about 10 seconds. So you see, it's all in the setup.

Our pressure washer has multiple fittings on a quick coupler so I can change to different sprays including a cone spray for deep mud or snow/ice in winter.

Don't need one, so I don't use one. I see no reason to spend half an hour putting a pressure washer together when I can use a hose to accomplish what I need to get done - initial rinse on the paint, tires, and wheel wells; fill the buckets; rinse off soap/degreaser; rinse the wash mitt out. What's the big deal? :dunno: Damaging the paint is not a concern, it's just that digging out the pressure washer and putting it all together is not at all worth the hassle for me.
You are wise beyond your years Shane!

Do you know of any detailers that just use a regular hose and never a pressure washer?

Yeah, me! :D

Sorry, but I still think it's more or less a matter of personal preference. Call me stubborn, call me a little old-fashioned, but until somebody convinces me otherwise, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I think it's safe to assume that all of us have or have access to a hose but not all of us have a pressure washer. I'm fortunate enough to have both but for general washing and detailing I use the hose.

There's nothing wrong with a pressure washer but you should be careful as it will force water into areas that standard hose pressure will not.

And you also run into things such as what this lady did with a PW

I use a hose, and wish I could afford a pressure washer, and a Deionization System.

Pressure washers make life so much easier on engine bays, wheel wells, rims, tires, i would be lost without mine. Theres really not alot of danger unless your just plain dumb, when i use mine i use the white fan tip and i can spray my feet off without any harm (i wear flip flops alot) but if you dont hold it 2 inches from the car its a good friend to have.

A few guys here are worried about the cost of buying a pressure washer. They really are not that expensive. There is car wax on this site that costs more than a pressure washer. check out your local Lowe's or Home Depot Dept store or even the hardware store. They start at around $150

The less than $200 do not seem to be that reliable.

I used my father in law's Karcher (only had been used a few hours) and sprung a leak (was an internal elbow that I fixed). When I was googling for spare parts, I found many many people with similar complaints about Karcher, Husky, etc. I would spend $300+ to get one that will last longer than a few seasons.

We went through a lot of pressure washers cleaning 2+ cars per day, we finally found a reliable one at Rona. Faip 1900psi electric. This unit has outlasted Husky, Simoniz and all the others we have been through COMBINED.
