Hi everyone

I am new to this forum but I hope to post up most of the cars that come through my shop. I have a small detailing business in Sunny Durban South Africa. We are apparently in the top 10 regions of the world for the most supercars so that is a bonus. I started my business in November of last year and have since built a large double garage and done the epoxy floors etc. as to use for my studio. I have always been ocd about the cleanliness of vehicles and have always put the extra effort in to keep my own looking good. Since opening I have landed a contract to detail +-10/15 supercars/high end marques a month so am super excited and great full for the opportunity my client has given me. The first vehicle of 2015 was a Black Audi R8 that was in need of some love. This brings me to the detailing part of this thread.

Wheels: These were left on the vehicle as instructed. Hp rinsed to remove top soil and Autofinesse Iron out applied, this was left to dwell and bleed out. Followed by a good foaming and clean with a mix of Daytona Jr, Speed Master and Valet Pro brushes. Tyres were tackled with Autoglym wheel cleaner to remove oxidation. Tar was removed with Autoglym tar remover and rinsed. These were then sealed with Menzerna Powerlock and topped off with Collinite as a lsp. Tyres were dressed with Meguiars Endurance gel.

Wheel wells: These were thoroughly rinsed down and foamed, a mixture of mothers brushes were used to tackle this task as they have a long reach, Cyclonic APC was used to get them nice and clean. Finally these were dressed with Shield Sheen for protection.

Body: The car was HP rinsed and foamed using Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II. This was followed by a 2 BM wash with lamb wool mits. The car was then Ironed Out using Autofinesse Iron Out and the Tar removed using Autoglym Tar Remover. Thouroughly rinsed off and dried. Then the car was clayed with a fine grade clay using Autofinesse Clay Lube for lubricity. This revieled the paints true meaning as well as just how much surface contamination was on the vehicle.

Exhaust tips: Iron out and Cyclone apc was used with various brushes to get these clean then they were polished with Meguiars metal polish.

Motor: This part of the car was the esiest and needed little attention. The tubs were wiped down and the bulkhead too. The engine was then blasted with compressed air and all rubbers and plastics dressed with Aerospace 303.

Interior: The seats in this car had received a dealership clear coat in their lifetime. It was very clear as this was failing all over the seat. After chatting to a few buddies they cemented my findings and suspicions, caution was taken and literally all I did was wipe them down and put some Collinite on for protection. (I have attached images, you will notice a pink hue on the seats under halogen lighting) On the other hand the door panels were still original and were cleaned with some leather cleaner and various soft brushes and protected Plastics were all cleaned of scuffs and dressed. Interior vacuumed and high pressure aired out. Aluminium shifter and pedals were cleaned and polished. Glass was tackled with Autoglym Fast glass and that’s all she wrote.

Paint Correction: It was clear that after the claying process was done that someone had had a go on this car with a Rotary.:buffing: I suspect they were uneducated as traces of compound were left in most of the vehicles seems as well as the excessive holograms evident on the paint. So I did a test spot and decided to go with Menzerna PF2500 done in two stages using Optimum Microfiber Polishing pads and finally finished off with FG4000 with Menzerna Polishing pads for finishing. All correction carried out was done using a Flex 3401 VRG.

Total Time Spent: +-25 hours

Please could you guys let me know your thoughts and what I could have done differently? As I am so keen to hear from you professionals.Feed back please Pics are from my phone as I have not had time to upload them.

Thanks for reading :dblthumb2::xyxthumbs::xyxthumbs:

Nice work and write up

Thanks for including some good tape line shots to show the Before & After

I have heard that many car valeting shops are closing doors in Sunny Durban & all because of "new kid on the block" called something like AS Detailing, is that you? :laughing:
If it's you, have a mercy for the people, they need to feed their families too.
My advice to you: Detail only the top cars & the KIA, Hyundai, Subaru, Peugeot etc. leave to cut & polish for them.

Fast car, very good work, top quality results. Bravo.

Thanks for the Feedback guys. Yes I am new to the whole forum thing but your kind words are really encouraging. Should have possibly a Porsche or GTR coming through this week so will post that up.

@Shark Politur
Thanks for your awesome reply. I do believe that South Africans are waking up to what vehicle cleanliness as well as the whole world of detailing. There are a handful of people in our country doing this and we have enough space between us to have many vehicles pass through our hands every month. Hope your all having a awesome day.

Welcome to Autogeek!!!!

Nice turn around on the R8 Alex!

Also nice to see another detailer from South Africa on here, and even better that you are from my home town - As far as I know you are now the 3rd Durban Detailer active on the forum.

If you are going to be targeting the exotic market, I would invest in a decent camera, so you can capture and share your good work

Nice job on the Audi

Agreed. I am useless with a camera if I have to be honest but I need to get a decent camera and practice. :iagree:
