So i was prepping the paint on my trunk lid and roof this afternoon with a prewax cleaner in order to re apply a lsp. After cleaning, i decided to use menz PL and waited a couple (2)of hours before topping it off with wax. My instincts were telling me that I should have waited 12 hours before adding an extra layer but I had to be up at work early morning. Did i mess anything up putting the wax on top of the sealant after a couple hours instead of 12hours? Thats the question really. Thank you.

The reason for letting the sealant to cure for so long is to allow the polymers to properly cross link and form a stronger bond over the surface. By applying wax over the top of the sealant, without allowing full cure time, it may negatively impact durability, and/or beading performance.

You are not a dummy, but you did affect durability as already mentioned. How much really depends on how you use the car, weather patterns, etc...

The next time you plan to use PL consider doing it first-thing in the morning on a day you are not working, say 8am. By 4pm, you should be ready to go but if you can wait, then do so. Most the cross-linking will occur in the first half of a 12-hour cycle.

Nah man looks like ima dummy after all LOL. So instead of my sealant lasting say 2-3months, it should last at least a month correct? And what throws me off is that I've seen a few detailers throw a layer of wax right after sealant. They probably don't know about polymers cross linking ..thank you guys again

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Most the cross-linking will occur in the first half of a 12-hour cycle.

It could similarly be argued that most of the cross linking that occurs in the first half of the 12 hour cycle occurs in the the first half of that first half...which is 3 hours...so it's not really something to agonize over.

Well you will find out soon enough, won't you? :-)

Another reason DG 601 is so valuable. You could have either mixed 601 with 105 or 111 or done the steps separately and then gone on to IMMEDIATELY top it with wax.

I should grab some of that, is it the bonding agent? Dg got nice products man I've heard people doing that

I wouldn't worry about it being your car etc
Some people say wait 8 hours for bfwdps
I wait 30 minutes and achieve outstanding results

That sealant sucks if it only lasts 2 months
Pete's 53 is wipe on wipe off and you will get at least 3 months out of it, many get 5+
And that's a hybrid wax not even fully synthetic that gives a nice wet look
