Any fellow knife collectors out there?

of the ones you picked I would say the 710 or 920 from BM would be great knives to have. I almost ordered the 710 when I got my Caly3. Everyone I have talked to that owns the 710 loves them.

I didnt see a 920 on my list, do you mean the 940? Now that I have selected the knives which I think look good, its time to narrow them down. I think I will include BAT or BOAT(blade assisted technology or blade opening assisted technology) as a must. I will also start to do extensive research in the steels used in the knives. I would appreciate your help if you have time, as you have been very helpful.:grouphug::cheers::)

sorry I meant the 940, I think its an osbourne design whatever the number is. With benchmade axis lock you can open them just as fast as an assisted opener with a little practice. Honestly the best thing to do would be to find a benchmade dealear around you and see what they feel like in your hand. However I would look into getting a knife with g-10 handles as they are extremely grippy and pretty light. As for steels you cant really go wrong with VG-10 or S30V. Both will be great. I dont really know much about the AUS steels though.

How do you flip the blade out as fast as an assisted blade, do you just flick your wrist? If so that takes time, I want that blade out fast, sometimes you dont have time to flick the blade open. It seems that the RC of all of these folders is pretty good(58-60) but 60 I think might be too brittle for heavy use. I am going to go to some shops and try out some knifes.

I have a few AO knives like the kershaw blur (which if your interested in I could part with) and have used a few autos. The only bad thing about the AO knives is that there in resistance when you close them due to the spring that you have to compress. I can get most knives opened fast enough using just a thumb stud or a thumb hole. I have found that doing the whole wrist flick thing seems to scare people when you do it in public and I have actually thrown a knife or two doing it. With enough practice you could open any knife that has decent construction/materials as fast as any assisted opening knife.

I was just browsing new graham and I saw the Benchmade apparition, it looks alot like the 710 but it has their AO technology called optimiser I think so you might want to look into that knife as well.

Just went to 2 stores which carried knifes and took a look at some. I got to handle a benchmade, not any of the ones I want but I just wanted to get an idea. it was a nice knife, but it didnt seem it was a 100$ nice knife. It didnt feel or look too special, but it was a nice one. I also got to handle a sog trident, the one i said I like, it turns out in person, i did not like it so much. It didnt feel very sturdy, the sog had blade assist and I now know what you are talking about. The thing that surprises me about the benchmade knives I saw was that they only had like 2 or 3 handle bolts. So I guess blade assist knives arent all that great. I crossed off the sog on my list. I am going to try to find more store that i can go to and test some knifes out. I know there is one army surplus store really far away, I guess im going to go there, and maybe try another REI, or Any mountain. I havent been able to find a only knife store.

REI doesnt really have any tactical type knives. Do you know which models of BM you tried out, Im guessing one was a griptilian with the axis lock. Are none of the spyderco models tactical looking enough for you?

Here are some of my swords, shark knife, shotgun and bow:
Swords.jpg

One of the swords is a German sword one of my neighbors gave me for my birthday. I'm always helping him out. He is 87 years old and here is what he wrote down about the history of the sword on the card he gave me.

"Gary! This sword has a little history. When I was in the 3rd army under general Patton in the 54Th armed infantry we took many cities and villages. I don't remember what town I aquired this sword. It was a SS town, school, etc. The SS army officers fought each other with dull sabers and if they received a scar on their face, it as a mark of distinction. Hitler liked his army officers to duel with short sabers. After ther war I took displaced persons, from Germany to their own countries and brought German Prisinors back to Germany. I noticed scars on the officers faces and was told by them they got them form dueling with other officers with short sabers. I showed them the saber I aquired and thry said that was the type they dueled with. I took the saber from a german SS officer. The sword has been in my attic in Michigan for 35 years and in my attic in Florida for another 28 years. I'm glad it's finally getting a good home. Bob"

I was really touched when he gave it to me.

That is very cool Gary, I would hate to see if anyone tried to break into your house!

Well I dont like the styling that spyerco uses. I looked at every model. You are correct I tried the griptilian. There is a benchmade distributor next to my house and im going to go there again, I went there 2 days ago but I didnt look carefuly, they didnt seem to have a lot of them, maybe 15-25 knifes.

CRKT makes some pretty good knives for the price, another thing to do is go over on bladeforums.com and try to pick up some nice used knives.

Oh I did, there was one on my list I really liked, did you not see it?

New Graham Knives - Detail I love the look of the blade, the handle not so much. I am crazy over this one New Graham Knives - Detail but its serrated. i did not find any CRKT knives I liked. I need to start re-searching the steels used in the knifes I selected.
