Hey I know some of you have to fish. Me and 15 of my friends kinda wanna go on a trip. we were originally thinking canada like quetico area. then minnesota. any of you from northern minnesota or canada in that region know of any good fishing spots? it's gotta be cheap cause were all college students. and it'll be a week long venture. and we'd like a cabin.

I would but I don't like worms and I'm afraid to touch the fish :)

Are you planning on going this fall or next spring/summer? What are you planning on fishing for walleye, musky, smallmouth bass? Going with 15 people isn't going to be cheap, you'll probably have to get 2 cabins. Are you planning on getting a guide for a day or two??

As a kid I grew up in Northern MN and fishing was a huge part of my life. My uncle was a fishing guide for many years and we made several trips into the boundary waters area....good times!

I don't get up there as much anymore, but when I do it's always a blast. Here is a pic of my uncle and me on opening weekend of fishing, Birch Lake in Ely, MN.....36" Northern Pike.

They have several resorts on the lake that offer lodging and even house boat rental. We usually just tent it in one of the many DNR camp sites on the lake.

Have to take you to the keys Dwayne and fish out of the kayaks. Live shrimp and better then worms?

I can handle the live shrimp but you would have to take the fish off the hook for me :D

Some more pics from that opening weekend....

Spent a lot of time up on the North shore, Grand Marais, when I was younger. Fished a lot of the Gunflint trail lakes, but never really made it up into the BWCA, or to Ely.

I'm guessing that partially digested walleye wasn't a part of your shore lunch that day??

LOL....why do you think we removed it! :hungry:

As a person that has gone on and helped organize a number of Up North fishing trips I can guarantee you the number will drop from 15, just trust me on that! That being said,
I've been going to the BWCA since the early 1970's and I strongly recommend it. If you and the fishing buddies aren't much into canoeing then a couple suggestions are Rainy Lake in northern Minnesota. Check out the houseboats for a fun cabin alternative:Minnesota Fishing Trips MN Fishing Charters Rainy Lake Fishing Reports
I've had family members and friends do this and they rave about it. Now that we have the twins this might be the next fishing trip I can take the whole family on.
My other suggestion is Lake of the Woods in Northwest Ontario. I have caught some MONSTER muskies out of that lake. Crow Lake (literally across the road from Lake of the Woods) is also a great place to fish; it has the best smallmouth bass fishing I've ever experienced, but has no walleyes.

MMMMMMMMM, I was just thinking about shore lunch...... :hungry:

I have stayed here in the 5 bedroom cabin and strongly recommend it:
Fishing Crow Lake near Nestor Falls Ontario Canada at Canadian Fishing Boreal Bay Lodge and Resort on Crow Lake

If you stay here you can have the lodge position the boats on Lake of the Woods the night before. You then have about a 10 minute drive to the boat the next AM. Or just stay on Crow Lake, it's beautiful either way.

Here's a few pics from our last all guys trip in 2004:

Don't forget that the laws have changed and you now need a passport for reentry into the U.S. A passport runs about $100.00 and can take up to 8 weeks to get.

BTW: My fishing gear collection puts some sporting goods stores to shame!!!
