Anyone else order a Makita PO5000C?

for the price, i can't justify only using it and being more effective in one mode. what might be right for some, may not be for others...

I thought it was having trouble turning pads in free spin mode also. I felt like it was oscillating but not really rotating.

Another reason it lacks rotation in free mode besides small throw...the fricking BP is 110 grams..120 if you count the hardware

It isn't an opinion if it's fact. !

I bolted the 3in HD griot BP and will see how it does in free spin mode

So far I only blipped the throttle a few times on speed one in forced mode in air

Wasn't an issue for me.. bought it to replace my 3401 which only has forced mode..as will the Mille and XCE

Compared to 3401 it's better in every way

Hopefully oct/,,Nov we'll see release of Mille
 
Mine has been sent back to Makita for repair.

Anybody know if you can switch the BPs out between a 5000 and 6000? In the UK we're getting the 6000, but I think a 5" BP would work better for my needs.

I think the only difference besides voltage is the backing plate so I'd expect you to be able to switch. That said, I put a 5" Rupes backing plate on mine because the scalloped edge of the original backing plate makes it look like the pad is spinning the opposite direction from what it is and that annoyed me no end.

Haha, is there any reason for that scalloped backing plate? Or is it just to make the polisher look different from competitors' products?

As long as the weighting would still be OK with different backing plates, that's fine with me.

How did the griot's backing plate work?


What causes a pad mounted on a bearing to spin? And, how much energy can be transferred to the paint through a bearing?

You can, it'll work with no issues as the only difference between the two are backing plate diameter and voltage, 110v vs ,220v
THE ISSUE currently is they don't sell spare plates nor brushes it seems..

I hear PO5000C is USA built whereas the PO6000C is built in Japan..so I can see better quality with the 220v machine...atleast in quality control.

You can also bolt on Griot boss backing plates along with Rupes ES/legacy plates
Dont have a 5,inch to compare but my G21 plate weighs in at 125grams (add 10 grams for hardware)

110grams for the 5inch PO5000C (add 10 grams for hardware)

Griot HD 3 inch is 90 grams

Rupes mini was like 25 grams(Add 10 grams for hardware)
75e plate will need center hole enlarged to fit Makita backing plate Allen bolt

Makita PO5000C bolts up their Backingplate like every other long throw type polisher

Stud type backingplates will bolt up..just need a spanner wrench

Closes to weight with what I've had in hand is the 3in HD Griot plate

Need to weight stock Makita plate with a thin pro vs 3in HD Griot with a LC HDO and see how much closer I get to factory spec weight

I'll test this soon with the 3 inch..see if it makes free spin usuable..maybe I'll also buy a spare 75e plate to modify to see if lack of mass helps.

There's no reason I can be sure of. The scallops might let the backing plate sink into the pad and hold it more securely but since I've never had a problem with pads coming off of backing plates that didn't have scallops it seem like a funny thing to have thought about while other issues slid by.


No one should think, just because I use this machine and even advocate for it, that I think it's perfect.
