Anyone try McKee’s Graphene Deep Gloss Ceramic Sealant?

Remember CD2 ENGING DETAILER? That was the go-to back in day. Everybody ran out and bought up the remaining stock once they found out it was discontinued.

Come again?

Btw I did apply a fresh coat of the AA Wax to my car and it did rain pretty good yesterday. I actually did a 50/50 with the passenger side of the car getting product from a newly opened bottle, and the drivers side with the opened bottle I had sitting on the shelf.

So far it’s beading good, but I did sort of feel a noticeable lack of moisture in the towel I used to buff it off.

Unfortunately the weather forcast turned out false and we’re not getting rain for 7 straight days. But it says it’s raining again on Saturday and begins raining again on Tuesday for 5 straight days.. Should provide some good weather for testing the new stuff.

The McKee’s Graphene might arrive tonight and I’ve got a guiniue pig lined up to test it asap barring me getting lazy, but hopefully that doesn’t happen. Lol.

Back in the day it was an aerosol engine dressing. And a good one at that. Cleaned your engine, then you applied it.

I'm interested in this product Eldorado2k. I just got carpro essence+ i'm going to try as a sealant. I think sealants are more my style.

I never intended for this thread to turn into a 50/50 comparison between 2 products, but I figured might as well because who doesn’t like to see the difference between 2 products under the same exact conditions.

I did a thorough bucket wash on this Kia Saturday morning, then opened the brand new bottle of McKee’s Graphene Deep Gloss Ceramic Sealant which got applied to the passenger side of the hood.

I allowed the McKee’s to haze up as I grabbed another brand new microfiber applicator and applied the Armor All Extreme Shield Wax [sealant] to the drivers side. The AA Shield is literally wipe on, wipe off and you better do it quick for best results. Hand application is the only possible way to apply this stuff because using a DA would result in too long before you came back and buffed off and by then you’d be screwed.

1 thing I noticed as I was buffing off the Armor All… I was using a brand new Kirkland microfiber since I had just got a new batch in the night before and holy crap I hadn’t felt anything that smooth in forever! i was blown away at how easy and smooth it felt to wipe it off and my 1st thought was “damn that’s what I’ve been missing out on”?

It’s been so long since I had bought new towels because I was under the impression that my towels were more than adequate, afterall I make sure to keep at least 2 main batches separate. 1 for Paint + 1 batch for General Purpose/Interior towels. But seeing the difference in how that new towel felt compared to the ones I’ve been using for paint for who knows how long, hit me like a ton of bricks.

So we’ve got:
McKee’s Graphene [passenger side]
Armor All Shield [drivers side]

Both applied by hand using 2 separate brand new microfiber applicators. 2 separate brand new Kirkland microfiber towels for removal.
I allowed the McKee’s to haze for about 40min. before wiping off. The wipeoff on the McKee’s was ok as far as ease, similar to how Colonite is to wipeoff. There’s a tad bit of tackiness as you’re wiping it off which once it’s buffed off leaves you with smooth paint, but nothing remarkable as far as smoothness, but personally that’s ok with me as long as it hopefully hits the mark in other areas.

About 4hrs. later it began to rain for about 4hrs. or so. Light rain… I didn’t go outside to take any pics that 1st night.

Yesterday/Saturday it was cloudy all morning and began to rain again at about 5pm. and continued all throughout the night. Pretty good strong rainfall.

I took these pics just after @1am.

The beading on both was a bit more pronounced on the 1st night of rain, but I didn’t take the time to take any pics. [not a crazy difference though]

We’re supposed to get several more days of rain coming up this week. I’ll keep you posted.

And I’ll say it again, if you’ve been using the same microfiber towels and have put them through lots of work, you should strongly consider demoting and replacing them with a new batch. They may look clean, and you might even believe they are because these new microfiber detergents are supposed to do a great job… But you might be surprised. Don’t be El Cheapo for too long.

The beading looks tighter on the armor all side. Interesting test.

The AA side does indeed look to be better. I can see why you bought up all the new/old stock.

I think the McKee"s side is much better.
Whole lot less water sitting on the passenger side of the hood.

I will take sheeting over beeding any day which it looks like the McKee"s side does much better.

Those beads are completely harmless.
1 of the reasons I initially gave this stuff a try was because I had recently gotten a 100% refund from AA after their Outlast Wheel Protectant failed to work on a set of wheels I applied it to. Truth be told, it did work quite well on the 1st set I applied it to, but since it wasn’t a complete lie I decided to call and take them up on their offer and sure enough they sent me a check refunding what I paid for the product.

So I went in with the same mentality that if it failed to live up to any of those claims on the box I’d call and get a refund without any hassles. Needless to say it lived up to the claims on the box including the water spots. I’ll park next to any sprinkler and nothing happens. Washes right off.

Those beads won’t leave the car dirty. I walked outside just now and took this picture. There’s actually a noticeable difference showing the McKee’s side with more beads whereas the right side a large majority of the water has wisked away.

16 day update: It’s been raining steady on/off during these past 16 days. Very uncommon weather for Los Angeles, but it certainly makes for good lsp testing.

This hood has been taking a beating, and only 4 days in I was wondering if it was simply too harsh for either to survive. Just look at what the weather did to the hood on day 4. Lol.

After seeing that on day 4, my plan was to wash the hood but I never got around to it. It’s still my plan to wash it, but when I went out to take pictures just now it was actually in pretty good condition.

So here are live pics from day 16. Nothing has been done to the paint since day 1. No washes. No quick detailers. No wipedowns, no nothing. Just steady rain half the time. It’s actually raining as I took these pics.

The difference between the lines is even more apparent in real life than it shows in the pictures. The Armor All is smoking the McKee’s Graphene.

I will say that I’m somewhat surprised that the McKee’s hasn’t completely failed at this point, because most lsp’s that I’ve tested in the past would’ve been completely flat after this much rain and no washes. We’ll see what it looks like after a quick wash, maybe it’ll revive a bit?

That's a dud for sure. Expensive too IE the Mckee's. I still cringe with all the Graphene products Mckee's have released.

I'll be testing Carpro Essence+ as a standalone sealant this spring. Maybe the summer if cancoat hangs in there but i doubt it. I haven't seen my car in close to 2 mths but it will be interesting. It was beading like crazy when i left.

IF a product is failing at 16 days, it's garbage.

That comment may be party due to living in Southern California and being a bit shocked at the amount of rain we received within the 1st couple weeks this year. There was a point where the Apple weather app showed rain forecasted for 9 straight days. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it rain anywhere near that long in my entire life.Lol.

I don't buy that it's a weather issue. I've used SIO2 soaps that have lasted 16 days in wet conditions. Something else must be wrong.

I bought the large bottle of Essence Plus when they were 25 off after XMas. Saw a bunch that made me want to use it on cleaner paint jobs as a one a done!

There’s a chance you might be right. If there’s an issue it would’ve had to been my towels. If that proves to be the case, it would’ve been a major error on my part.

Why do you suspect your towels to be the culprit?

A member here stated he would go around the vehicle with essence plus then wipeoff the residue with a towel that was sprayed with sonax PNS. Apparently that combo worked quite well.

Entry level combo that's made me a ton of $$$
