Anyone watch youtube detailers?

Scott doesn't like the fact when somebody disagrees with him or corrects him..kind of amusing
Pretty much tells me he's not wanting to learn.

I watched this one guy allot named Mike Phillips lol
AmmoNYC was another
Darryl
And a few Adams and junk man.
I really don't watch anything in YouTube now adays.. don't have the time or just don't think to

Mike has always been a great resource. I really enjoyed the tool demos he did with Dennis Gage a few years back. The recent fb videos with Jason Rose was excellent.

I watch all of the standard ones you’d probably know of

White details
Obsessed garage
TRC videos
Auto fetish detail
Scotty boy Dallas paint correction and auto detailing

I’ll pretty much watch anyone because I think everyone has something to offer even if it’s something small or nuanced.

I have a love hate relationship with OG because I think Matt represents a lot of what I have a certain disdain for in the detailing industry, but damn does he put out some top notch content when he goes places or has guests.

I watch them now and then but honestly, most of them are too dang long and boring. 20 minutes how-to videos on cleaning a window? Stupid. Most act like they are surgeons working in an OR too. I like Dallas Paint Correction though. Little wordy and long but real. As noted, they all get the job done. My advice for any of them is to consolidate to 4 mins max. If you can't convey the idea and technique in 4 minutes, then work on doing that before it's posted up.

I watch as much as I can. Most of it is repetitive but from time to time I find something interesting to modify the way i do things.

I have been watching a lot of AM Details and White Details lately.

Wow seems like most of the autogeek members have a youtuber that they enjoy watching. I do watch a lot of detailers on youtube. Some detailers are great, some detailers talk to much and get boring quite easily. Although White Details videos are long (1+ hour), he makes the vidoes very entertaining with music and the attention to detail he instills on each car. I use to watch Auto fetish videos but sometimes I feel like he talks to much and has to much pride up his butt. Scott from Dallas paint correction objects to other peoples comments and gets butt hurt sometimes. Overall they are great detailers and I did watch Mike Phillips detail videos and they are amazing as well!

I have very little time to watch video's on YouTube, but I'm not a pro either so the drive to be at the forefront of techniques and products is probably not the same. My viewing is much like everyone else: Autogeek/Mike Phillips, Ammo NYC, and the product demo's at Essorteric.

Apex Detailing compares compounds and rates them according to cut which is great in theory but his tests have a few major flaws. For one he tests on different painted panels so some compounds conveniently breeze though and a receive a get out of jail free card as they tested on a panel with softer paint. Another flaw is most heavy cut compounds need a heavier cut pad not a simple orange light cutting pad as they weren’t designed to excel on soft, less dense pads. Theres no consistency and hence no credibility in his tests as a result of this.

Think I have heard him saying he uses panels with the same kind of paint on them. Sure it's flaws when doing this kind of comparison. But think you can get some baseline of the products he is testing. The consistency is that he do tests with the same polisher and pad and to panels that are about as close as you can get when useing different ones. It's not the perfect setup he does. But it would be way more confuseing if he where to use different polishers and different pads.

I sort of thought the same thing, but also caught on that he does mention he uses panels that have been sprayed with the same clear coat. He also mentions he'd rather have the work done by the compounds, as opposed to pads and machine. He's basically trying to limit the variables involved. Throw in multiple pads (wool, MF, foam) and various machines (rotary, long throw, etc..) and you have some pretty complex testing involved. I'd hate to be the one to tackle on a project of that magnitude.

...I also really love Forensic Detail. Out of all of them, Jon has the most endearing personality, and is very objective despite his preferences. Also, he has great expressions, and a penchant for humor.
...
These guys have me wanting to make video tutorials of my own, but I just hate the camera....

Love that Jon.

Video tutorials are a lot of work!!!! I hate the camera, AND the sound of my voice.

Funny you mention 4 minutes. Looking at my data over time, the average view time of my videos is just over 4 minutes! So yeah, you nailed it. 4 min seems to be the number. But, I still watch even the longest of those detailer videos. Sometimes, I have time to kill as I wait for [whatever I'm waiting for at the moment].

I like White Details , Ammo, car craft and a few others. I also watch car cleaning guru if I want to meditate while getting good detailing information.

Car Craft Auto Detailing is fun to watch as well.

AGO.

I don't need to waste 20-30 minutes of my life watching something some other guy is doing that Mike P can't explain in 5 minutes without bias.

I dunno, many roads to the same destination; i don't mind a few different perspectives.

Have picked up many small things here and there from different channels. Nothing really earth shattering, but perhaps little nuances that make the small things easier/better. Or, by trying them you find they definitely don't work for your particular style.

Always like to see different stuff, whether I agree with it or not. It's how I usually find out that I'm not as smart as I think I am.

True enough. But to use a football analogy, why pound it up the middle 50 times when you can throw an 80 yard TD pass and get the same result? ;)

Not a waste of time if you enjoy it. Clearly you don't and that's cool too. I think the length of alot of these videos has to do with content request from the subscribers.

Hence my "JMO" at the end of the post. :props:

What if another entities methodogies are the 80 yard pass and AGO is, in fact, the "pound it up the middle 50 times" method in a particular situation?

To rely on a single source of information just seems limiting, IMO. No single resource does everything in the absolute best way possible for everyone.

Same reason I don't get all my information from AGO forum; too limiting. There's a whole 'nother world of products/procedures outside of PBMG.

If sole adherence to the AGO way works for you, great but this is all entertainment for a hobbyist like me so limiting myself to a single source of information is just that...limiting.
