Auto Detailing Day at Tuscarora Dave's (South Central PA)

Maybe I will bring my dog back for a reunion..

I call Colt "Colt the bolt" for a reason. My neighbors Blue Nose Pit came charging across the yard and pounced on Colt. In a time frame as fast as a bolt of lightning, Colt tore that big dog a new one.

Colt is super friendly with kids and is well socialized with other dogs but he assumes a dominant role with even the biggest and scariest looking dogs and is very willing to fight with them. He doesn't even know that with one good chomp he'd be a goner.

I might or might not have him up at the shop that day and it would take just 5 minutes to take him back home.

You're more than welcome to bring your dog along, just giving you the heads up about Colt the Bolt.

Another thing to be aware of is the traffic can be non stop at my location so if you bring the pooch along and he/she is a runner, be mindful of all the traffic. It would sadden my heart to see a dog run out into traffic and get hit.

I was just thinking...while were having a bunch of detailers there why don't we do some kind of charity car wash? Like for that local shelter or something? The one next door.

1. Would we feel right mass-producing washes? I could see myself spending hours on a car and everyone in line getting pissed at me.

And

2. I'm not wearing a bikini! :eek::laughing:

I would keep this a teaching event for those involved. Nothing wrong with charity work, but another time, another place. There's enough logistics involved with what Dave is doing...all while trying to run a business, take care of Pop's, and maintain one's sanity. :xyxthumbs:

Besides, if there's any extra time it could be spent on other participants auto's.

Guess I shouldn't be speaking for Dave, but I do have at least a little insight as to how full his plate is...whether he's at the shop or not.

Delilah would not want to go back there. The day we picked her up she went straight to our car without saying goodbye to the people there :)

As for Dave`s get together I think the KISS method should apply :)

Sorry for joining in on the thread late. I'm excited for this event and am available, Sunday the 13th. If that is the date I would probably be a little late because of going to early church before coming down. Saturday is booked full so I'll try my best to be there on Sunday.

If there is anything I can bring please let me know. I'm not sure on what polishers you have Dave but I'm more than willing to bring my Flex 3401 for someone else to play around with that day if they were thinking about purchasing one. Again, HUGE thank you for taking charge and setting up this event. It should be a great day and if there's anything you need please let me know! Thanks

I think Dave said he had one but bring yours anyway...I know I'd love to try one out!!

Hey Dave,

I realize the sooner the better but when do you have to know about attending?
I'm about 2 hours away but know the area well. I do smallmouth bass and flathead catfishng in the Susquehanna.
I remember the first time we pulled into town. Crested the hill and there stood T.M.I.

I knew if you were available to make it that you'd be on the list.

So here's the list now.

1.mightypudge
2.kochdalton87
3.Eandras
4.Legacykid
5.coachhoach
6.Evan.J
7.hagerbump
8.dcjredline (hopeful)
9.Becciasm (tentative)
10.$1storedetailer
11.DetailKitty

It looks like more are leaning toward Sunday the 13th so let's go with Sunday.

Honestly, I'll be around both days so in the event it looks like rain that Sunday but Saturday looks Ideal....hey I'm game for a Saturday Pre-Rain Day.

I can use either SMAT or DAT products rather proficiently so I'll be able to guide people with the product they've chosen after a test section or 2.

My go to is M-105 so I'll gladly offer insight as to how I've made it work best for me.

Great!! Hopefully you'll make the trip down.:dblthumb2:

Me too. I'll comment and bring it to the front each morning as I have comments to add.

My sister was offering to cook some lunch for this event for us, there's also a number of pizza shops real close to my location and also a Hong Kong Buffet right up the road. Of course covered dishes are always welcome too.

The food aspect of this day will give us a little more to discuss each day as I haven't hammered out any definite plans there.

Suggestions?

Would love to join this me+1

I do a charity car wash each year to help raise money for some local drug and alcohol rehabilitation "sober houses" where people who are stuck in the vicious circle of addiction get a chance at regaining their lives. It's a cause that helps them, their loved ones and everyone around these people.

It can be quite traumatizing to an AutoGeek level detailer to be involved in road side charity car washes. Trust me here.

Do your own charity car wash and you'll experience what I'm talking about. Thanks for the charitable thought, but no thanks.

No Bill....you're spot on with what you've written above. This past year has been one of the most difficult years of my life, and my Father's...And he's not completely out of the woods yet though he is doing much better now.

I give back to the community in a lot of ways, and I'm often told by those around me that I give too much of myself. I do what I feel is God's will for me to be doing, but I'm not adding another charity car wash to the mix..not now anyway.

I know you got my back...Thank you my friend..:urtheman:

I'm just glad you can make it..Come whenever you please.

I have a shortage of high quality wash mits and microfiber towels. I have what I typically use, and don't need anything fancier than that. So I say this to all who will be attending...bring what you like to use on your cars because what I have may not be anywhere as nice as what you have.

For example...I won't spend more than $3 per microfiber towel and typically spend half of that. I buy decent 70/30 microfiber and they work for my needs. If you require a heavy GSM microfiber or a Yetti's Fist wash Mit and grit guards, bring them along with you.

I think Dave said he had one but bring yours anyway...I know I'd love to try one out!!
I have 2 but by all means...bring it along. I'd really like to see someone bring a Rupes for people to try out. I've tried the 15 and 21 and wasn't convinced that I could do more with it than I can with my Harbor Freight Platinum, 3M backing plates and UltraFiber pads.

Maybe someone can convince me that I'm wrong there.

Never too late bro. If you're willing to make the trip, "COME ON DOWN!!!"

I too do a good bit of fishing around here. We're night fishing 3 to 4 nights a week in prime season. You can see TMI from my house, and I've never caught a channel cat with 3 eyes, or any glowing fish either.

You want on the list?? Huh?? Huh?? What do you think Drew? Huh? Huh? Want on the list? Im the MAN

I'd love for you to be there that day!!

Thanks Dave!

One of the bruisers from your neck of the woods. My wife with a 30 pound flathead. Battery died when she reeled in a 40 pound flattie.

Nice Cat!!

We do see a lot of giant flat heads around here. Well, giant for here anyway. One of the guys that used to help me at the shop showed me a picture on his phone of a 40 pounder his cousin caught at the York Haven Power Plant.

22 pounds is the biggest for me so far, caught on a strip of raw bacon. They love to hit on fall fish around here too.

Sure, why not. :)

We have a lot of folks attending! Imagine all our cars lined up in the sunlight at the end of the day, all paint and wheels and chrome gleaming brightly. I'll bet you'll be able to see it from space!

I've seen 41 brought in. No doubt in my mind that a new state record will come out of that river.

Bump, and some new info.

When I bought the Mustang I knew it had a handful of very small chips in the paint. At the time I was convinced I'd have to live with them. However, after purusing APO I discovered the Dr. Color Chip product and I'm anxious to give it a go.

In fact, the sooner the better. I'd like the paint chips to be dealt with before our detailing day on April 13.

So, does anyone have any tips on how to achieve the best results with DCC? Keep in mind the Stang is done up in Performance White which I understand is a tough color to work with when hiding/camoflauging chips.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in some tips as well... I bought a kit and have been waiting till spring to give it a go :xyxthumbs:

Read the instructions on DCC. Hmm...

Apparently they suggest not machine polishing the repaired spots for 30 days after fixing the chips. Since we have the event planned for April 13 and there will be machine polishing galore going on, I'm thinking I should wait until after the event to fix my chips. Oh well.

Yes, it does say this..... I'd wait.
