I used an accurate measurement for ounces to compare AG's measurements(marked lines for each gallon). It does state on the bucket that the measurements are approximate. However, to my findings, the AG bucket reads about 48 ounces less than the actual value(5 gallon total measurement). That's not "approximate" if you ask me, that's way off! FYI, I used the clear bucket.

Interesting find Mark. Does it have marking lines on the bucket or just claim the total capacity is 5 gallon? I found that my 5-gal bucket only holds 3.88238gal of water if I fill it to a line below the handle hinge (if you know what I am talking about). I never fill the bucket all the way up to the top because suds will overflow onto the ground and think that's a waste.

BTW, how many gal of soapy water do you actually use to wash a mid size sedan? I found that I only need less than 2 gal of soap water to finish a 2 bucket wash.. maybe I can switch to a small bucket to save some soap lol~

Yes, it has the marked lines per gallon.

I use about 3-4 gallons, but I always have some left over. Then again, I don't really use the 2 bucket method.

Hey Mark,

I used a gallon milk jug to measure off my bucket putting marks at every gallon. Now, the qualifier here is whether or not the gallon milk jug is accurate as well.

I re-measured at the 3.5 gallon mark and it was only 32 ounces off. Still, that's too much!

I'm sure if you return it to AG Mark they will give you a refund.

They would. :dblthumb2: However, I'll just use other marks for the proper measurements.

Just thought I'd mention it if they want to look into it.

I dont really do a real 2 bucket method as well.
I use 4 mitts per car so that each side of the mitt only touches 1 panel so that I dont have to spend a lot of time rubbing the mitt against grit guard.
how do you wash your car?

Ha, me too! With a gallon of milk costing up to twice as much as a gallon of gas, that jug better be accurate! A simple explanation for Mark's mismarked bucket is that Chinese milk jugs and American ice cream cartons now have something in common.

Mark, are all the measurements off or just the final one?

All. I might have mis-measured the 5 gallon mark, it may be closer to 32 ounces off, but that's still way too much. Anything more than 10 ounces off, isn't approximate, IMO.

I agree. I use 3.5 gallon buckets so you don't have to reach down in them so far; they are the same diameter as the 5-gal so all the accessories work (Grit Guard, dollies).

I'm sure it's accurate...it's just that they don't have a fill line at the 1 gal mark...so how far down from the top is 1 gallon?

I have a 3.5 gallo bucket but it's too shallow and too wide for the grit gaurd. Where did you get yours?

US Plastics...but it was a number of years ago, you can check with them as they are familiar with GG's to make sure they still fit.

Unless it's the same exact bucket I can see where the measurements would be off. The buckets from Walmart for example start narrow and widen as they go up and a Grit Guard won't reach the bottom.

I've always preferred exact measurements over approximate ones - I use a graduated medical cup to measure up to 500 ml, and some 4 liter bottles (with the fill amount verified using aforementioned cup) for larger amounts. As always, different strokes for different folks - but in this case, it's not just about being anal about things. I usually only use 6 liters of water for wash, and if measurements are off by 32 oz (approx. 1 liter), I would be diluting a sixth too much, or be overly concentrating product - and either one can have consequences with regards to paint and LSP care.
