Great, winter break is over, and now I have to go back to school!:mad::mad::mad: I'm guessing im the youngest on this site, but does anyone else have to go back to school, or am I the only one? I would rather be washing my car!:mad::mad:

I have to go back to shcool the 8th. I enjoy school, learning on a college level is so much better than HS. I look at it like this.. if I don't learn to enjoy school, how am I going to be successful? There's not too many non-educated, successful business owners out there.

Keep your head up, things will get better...

Haha, I made this thread on a Mustang forum I'm on.

I'm on the quarter system at my college and I just had a 6 week winter break, I go back tonight.

You know whats funny though, damn near all the successful business owners we know, none went to college, including my uncle who owns one of the largest electrical contracting firms. My grandfather is one of the only ones in my fam who went to college, Emory, and had an Insurance business that merged w/ Allstate. I graduated college in 05' and have my own business now. While almost everyone else we know that went to top notch colleges are just working your normal 9-5 corporate ladder type jobs.....you would think it'd be the other way around lol. My sister pulled off 4 years at a 2 year university though for her associates :D

And enjoy college, it goes by way to fast:(. IME it's the whole college experience thats more important you can network with so many people, I honestly don't remember much from my classes and I only graduated in 05' with a 3.5 GPA. The one thing missing that College doesn't teach you is "hands on" experience, that's why IME its so important to take an internship class in something that interest you, most companies will careless of all the achievements or awards you did in college, it's like you study all that, go to work, and learn all over again lol. And network, network, network at college. I know quite a few people that I graaduated with that didn't do that well in school but b/c of connections/contacts they made there their doing pretty damn well with businesses and different ventures. I went to Lynn University here, small private college, excellent business program, but the school is pry the most culturally diverse school around actually really cool when you firrs drive in and see all the flags from every country that students attend from. If you have a good advisor stay in touch with them, they can be your best friend and hook you up with companies etc.

I go back on the 8th :(

I don't know what happened the last three weeks. It's like they didn't even happen - I feel like my break just disappeared and I did nothing (which indeed is true).

oh man, I was just starting to get into the "break" mentality :(

No school here.
Though, I did get a grant to go back. I need to go enroll before they take it back. it has been 2 months now. I am going to go to the community college and take auto body repair and refinishing. i took 2 years of it before back in '97ish, then worked in a few body shops. haven't touched it since late 99. I need to freshen up. Would like to add something like that to my services...or just something to do in spare time......if I have any spare time...lol

How old are all your guys?

I'm only 19, and I don't have ALL the business experience. I have worked 1(one) retail job. Since I was 16, I've had my own landscaping business. I am eager to learn new marketing techniques, business practices, management, business law, etc. I am also taking some digital imaging classes, so I can learn how to make my own brochures, flyer's, scrap-book, and business cards, so I don't have to pay someone or exchange services.

I have been fortunate in HS, when I enrolled in the Institute of Finance, and Business Professionals of America (BPA). We went to nationals for the Global Marketing section in Anaheim, California for 7 days, when we presented our business, business plan, etc. in front of the AT&T CFO.

I will agree, the best thing is to have hands-on-training and network. There's a member from SBA who visits our school about once a month, and I see him every time. But I'm trying to learn the techniques, and think like a mature business owner. Community College rules! I also got an acceptance to UF, for a MBA, but declined. I was making near 40k a year when I was 17, I know making 7 figures wouldn't be too hard, just about making the right acquisitions. But being in the FL heat and humidity, it was just too much for me. I was killing myself every day in that heat, at such a young age. When detailing, tress are very common, and provide plenty of shade from the sun. Although I'm not afraid to work in the sun/heat, I try and make it every bit more comfortable for me.

Enough ranting.. I will shut up now.. :o

Luke - I'm 24

Nick - Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, best of luck. I love having my own business, I absolutley do not have patience to work for somebody, hate having a boss LOL. Other thing was it was sorta like proving myself since almost everyone else in my fam has a business etc. Good thing is my grandfather has always taught me investing, money management etc since I was younger, and it paid off. I haven't even paid myself in 4-5 months as we reinvest almost everything back into the business and accounts with the way the market is, want to make sure we have a nice cushion. Whereas many of the jo shmoes that are unlicensed and use schemey tactics in my area of biz to make money unfortunetley do make a lot of money, but they blow it. I knew one guy who was living in a rental apartment yet drove a Murcielago and Rolls Phantom, spent all his money on cars while living in a 1200 a month little apartment lol. Now he's broke, every dollar he made...poof...there it went.

Wish you the best in business Nick!

Thank's surfer. It's especially nice to here that from a respected member on these boards. :) And I wish YOU the best of luck in '07. Here's to another successful year..

I too have taken personal finance, and personal investment classes in college. In the investment class, we had the option of using the real market, or a "simulated" game market, and I chose to invest a couple hundred dollars, and the professor helped us along with P/E ratios, dividends, etc.

My personal finance class, the BEST class I've ever taken. It has taught me sooooo many invaluable things about saving, and planning. I even taught my parents a few things, and they have damn near perfect credit. I enjoy learning, and will never stop.

I sold my landscaping business for 3x my sales on '04, to help the startup of this one, plus saving for a home, and new truck.
