every last chenille mitt i've gotten from AG has gone bad relatively quickly in that the black elastic cuff will release these little hard black bits of failed elastic EVERYWHERE. they are hard and definitely a hazard. when i notice a few inside the mitt, i have to 1. tear the cuff away which makes the mitt pretty hard to use or 2. throw it away. i keep my mitts pristine and the chenille part is always still good but it's the dumb cuff that makes these worthless.

i'm not a huge fan of super deep nap wool mitts like the uber - i think they trap too much dirt and don't release easily when using two buckets.

are there any other mitts out there that are have a chenille-type material but don't fall apart like these silly chenille mitts on which i keep blowing my money???

the common bond amongst all of the chenille mitts is a poor quality cuff where the elastic eventually fails. some have a liner...which sucks if you rotate the mitt around to get a fresh side whilst on a panel. that can be cut out but you are still left with the crappy cuff. the ones that don't have the cuff are not the same pile as the rest and don't stay on your hand very well when saturated.

i'm srsly considering the incredimitt which is apparently being imported here by carpro. it looks awesome and appears to be extremely well made, according to reviews. while not chenille and not cheap, it appears to be a worthy substitute and certainly not $35 like some of the more popular wool mitts.

i know a lot of people like the carpro mitt but it's single sided!

I hear what you saying, I personally never had that problem why dont you just pick off the black spects and just hold the mitt from the outside another alternitive is go to autozone, pepboys or simular place and buy a cheap five dollar chenillie mitt its gonna be either a eurow or carrand brand under a different name or if have a advance auto parts near they should have groits wash mitts....just my eight cents...good luck

I've never use a MF Chenille mitt but...

IME wool mitts release trapped dirt much easier than anything microfiber. I usually need to scrub my microfiber mitt and towels with soap to clean them.

yeah that's the sort of mitt i used for years; particularly, the bright tennis ball green ones they'd have at Advance. those are what turned me onto chenille mitts in the first place. with those auto store types, the same thing would happen with the elastic failure but even worse in that the cuff would just loosen up totally on top of WHITE bits, so they'd be even harder to see than the hard black bits. but on top of that, they typically had a liner inside that would eventually have to be cut out when it would interfere with easily flipping to a fresh side while keeping it on my hand. i figured i'd be getting a premium version of that with the AG stuff but unfortunately i've been wrong.

after the specks show up, i've been taking the cuff part off but part of the appeal of a mitt is the spread (overall area) you can get with your hand inside and also the overall control while easily flipping to a fresh side. when the cuff is off, i wants to fall off of your hand especially when saturated, and without being on your hand, it's just like a regular wash media or sponge and you lose a lot of the benefits of a mitt.

it'd be nice to just be able to rely on something so it doesn't fail in some dumb way that makes the mitt useless even though the "meat" of the mitt is still great.

yeah chenille aren't like that. they release super easy. i find the deep nap wool mitts (uber, wookie, rethickulous) hold onto too much stuff and because they are natural, end up having weird nuances that cause them to fail. like, they shed or rot, etc.

i ordered two of the incredimitts so we'll see how that plays out. reviews all across the world are great for those; they just don't have a real presence in the US. i also am going to get a couple of the megs MF mitts; they aren't chenille, but i think they are cheap enough where it'll be worth getting them to gauge the quality and the user experience.

My AG mitts have failed as well. I my replace them with the new LC yellow foams.

I have had good results using the Incredimitt the past several months. The mitt seems to be holding up very well!

I got mine for chemical guys Ive had good luck with them but I'm sure they are the same ones from ag. I did get a free one for ag that had no cuff didn't like at 1st but I do now.

I've heard several reports of Chemical Guys chenille mitts marring paint. Might want to look into that.

still don't understand why there is a post edit time limit on this forum...

anyway, i ended up taking advantage of the Autopia 10% off and no min free shipping special that they emailed out tonight and picked up two Megs mitts in addition to the Incredimitts i have coming from somewhere else. for like ten bucks it was worth getting the Megs pieces just to see how they are. not chenille but i'm sure i'll figure something out for them.

+1. I'm a member of a number of forums, and this is the first one I've seen that has this feature enabled.

Anyhow, regarding the OP, I started using my mitts without placing my hand inside of them.

Is there any difference in the colors of the different mitts (besdies the color :) ) that AG sells? I have the purple and its the first one I bought from them. I've only been using it for about 2 months, but I don't have any problems yet.

Yea I am not a fan of the AG Chenilles, I have had total of 3 of them and all ripped..

I use the Aussie Merino which has been holding up good so far and no signs of wearing out after a dozen or so washes. Speaking of longterm testing,I have the LC blue sponge and Meguiars Microfiber mitts that have been in my arsenal for 2 years and no issues.

I use one that I picked up at WalMart. I'm going on my second season and it's holding up great. It's still soft and pliable and comes clean in the washing machine.

none.

i bought purple for personal upper panel use. yellow for "everyone else" upper panel use and a few grays for wheels and lower extremity use. they are all exactly the same with the exception of being different colors.

Same here, I use the different colors for different portions of the car. But mine too had come apart and hardly last a few washes.

Hmm. I do not have any problems with them.
