I bought some BBS RZ wheels. These are nearly 30 years old. UPS still has them, but they are in their way to me.
The pictures look OK, but I am assuming they will need some cleaning.
Typically I use Adam's Wheel Cleaner, but thinking I might need something a bit stronger.
What do you like when you need a stronger product?
Thanks

I would wait to assess it in person then go from there

Nice wheels!! Do you have a steamer?

Also, I find that Adam's wheel cleaner is pretty strong if you let it dwell for a bit and then agitate, but as SNP said above, wait to see 'how much' they need. And...post some pics!

What are they going on?

Yes I have a steamer.
They are going on a 91 BRG Miata

Cool, great wheels, will look solid on that!!

If they are horrible, steam can be your friend, especially with that pattern and how tight they are.

Thank you. I have all kinds of wheel brushes 5 different sizes of wheel woolies, an attachment thing that goes in the drill with little "flaps" like a carwash spinny brush has.

20yrs. of caked on brake dust. Megs Wheel Brightener bearly made a dent.
Brown Royal Wheel Cleaner knocked it completely out with relative ease.

Even if the wheels are pretty bad, you may be surprised by how well your normal wheel cleaner will perform. Here is an example of Griots regular green wheel cleaner (not the heavy duty stuff) on some filthy race wheels I bought a few years ago.

Wheel cleaner review

Brown Royal is amazing stuff. It makes Megs Wheel Brightener look like a pussy cat. Best of all it isn't any more harsh on uncoated metal than WB.

The wheels came yesterday. They don't look too bad. No cleaning on these yet, direct from the box to the car. Screenshot_20250531_070538_Gallery.jpg

I am guessing this is more clear coat failure than just polished wheel needing repolished.
For a 30 year old wheel live with it, pay someone to refinish them, or can I safely make them better?

^^Looks like clear failure to me. No way to make it any better without refinishing unfortunately.

They are starting to look better. This still needs cleaned again and polished. Then I am just going to coat it and leave it like this.

You’re talking like you’re not sure if that’s bare metal or not? It’s very easy to test, and I’d assume you already know how, right?

It had clear coat on it. Now it's bare as I sanded it off
