Best over the counter clay?

Tried Clay magic today. Paint still feels "gritty" after claying. The claybar does help, it just doesn't make the paint feel completely smooth using the plastic bag test. The car has not been repainted.
 
Try going over it again. Sometimes it takes one or two clays to get it smooth. If that doesn't work, you'll want to step up to a more aggressive clay or another OTC clay and see if that works better.
 
Clay magic or 3M. For CM I use their purple for 3M I use the blue.
 
stay in the same small section until it no longer feels gritty. It's not just a pattern that you run over the car. It's section by section and some are worse than others. Soon, you'll know when to move to the next section just by the way the clay glides. I may stay right in the same spot for 10-15 strokes/passes just because I can still feel and see stuff that the clay will pick up. Other areas of the car might be easier. kEEP LUBING AND KEEP KNEADING.
 
Hood, roof, anything facing towards the sky has the most containments.

The Clay Magic kit and the Smooth Surface kit will probably be the easiest to find. I can get the Mother's clay kit as well, but I've tried it before and wouldn't go back to it again. The clays and kits listed are my main options (although I have never had a need for the aggressive clay). Just see what you can find.
 
i tried the mothers clay kit out a week ago and was really dissappointed...

the clay is EXTREMELY soft and sticky

it was sticking to my hands while i tried to kneed it and then it kept sticking the paint (i was using a tonm of lube)

ive always used the smooth surface kit and have been impressed
the turtlewax ICE clay kit seemed to be pretty decent too

I just picked up my first claymagic kit and havent had a chance to use it yet but im hoping its as good as everyone says

i LOVE that its only 12BUX compared to 17-19 for the smooth surface kit
 
I posted a question about the BOGO Four Star clay earlier today.

Does anyone know how the white Megs clay kit clay compares to the professional mild and agressive clays? How about verses the Four Star Detailing clay?

I've tried Adam's, Meguiar's, and Mothers clay and they all gave acceptable results. All 3 were non aggressive and did the job.
